    • A system is disclosed for facilitating rotation of a mattress. Covers with slick surfaces are selectively placed in engagement with each other between the mattress and the box spring or platform . One cover is provided with a slick and non-slick surface. The other cover may be the same as the first cover or may have slick surfaces on two sides. In an alternate embodiment of the invention, one cover may is a protective cover that encapsulates the entire mattress. In another alternate embodiment, one cover cooperates with a slick surface that is integrally provided on one or the other of the mattress or box spring or platform. In yet another alternate embodiment of the invention, slick surfaces are provided on both the mattress and the box spring or platform. The mattress is secured relative to the box spring or platform by removable fasteners in a normal mode of operation.

The surfaces may be provided by two separate covers; a single cover and the inherent surface roughness of the box spring or fixed or adjustable platform; a single cover with an embedded surface or no covers with embedded surfaces in both the mattress and the box spring or platform. In the latter embodiment, the mattress and the box spring or platform are secured together in a normal mode of operation to prevent unintended movement of the mattress.

    • A device for facilitating rotation of a mattress in a plane formed by a box spring where slick surfaces between the mattress and the box spring are placed in contact to reduce the friction between. The slick surfaces are provided by a first cover for the top of a box spring and a second cover for the bottom of the mattress. The first cover is provided with a slick upper surface and non-slick bottom surface while the second cover includes a slick surface that faces downward. The first cover is attached to the box spring with its non-slick side is in contact with the box spring and its slick side is in contact with the slick side of the second cover of the first cover. A levitation device forms part of the second cover and includes an air supply that creates an air cushion between the mattress and the box spring which lifts the mattress and allows the mattress to be rotated.

    • A mattress bar retainer system is disclosed for use with adjustable mattress platforms. The mattress retainer bar system is used to prevent movement of the mattress during positioning of the adjustable mattress platform assembly. In a rotate mode of operation, one or more mattress retainer bars at the head/foot end or corners of the bed are removably attachable and re-installable to the mattress platform. In an alternate embodiment, the mattress retainer bars are configured to be positioned to enable the mattress to be rotated relative to the adjustable mattress platform in a rotate mode of operation. After the mattress is rotated to the desired position, the mattress retainer bars are restored to their normal position in a normal mode of operation. In an alternative embodiment, the retainer bars are motorized to enable the retainer bars to be positioned at the touch of a button on a control pad. In an alternate embodiment of the invention, a retainer bar is disclosed for use with fitted sheets.

    • A multiple layer mattress system is disclosed which addresses the issue of degradation of the elasticity of a foam mattress core. In one embodiment, the multiple layer mattress is formed with split layers; namely, one or more comfort layers and one or more support layers. Each layer is encased with an encasement which includes complementary chiral zippers to enable the comfort layer and the support layer to be removably secured together. The chiral zippers allow the various layers to be rotated 180° relative to each other and reconnected thereto. Layers can also be added to the mattress or replaced to suit a user's comfort level. Optionally, a separate cover may be selectively secured to the top of a comfort layer and/or the bottom of the support layer for accessories. The optional bottom accessory cover may be used to provide active or passive maneuvering of the support layer relative to a foundation. The optional top accessory layer may provide for various accessories including: a protective cover; a heating pad, a smart tech cover, for example, as illustrated at lunasleep.com; a launderable cover; a pillow top and other accessories. An aftermarket mattress encasement is also disclosed that includes a top cover and a bottom cover connectable together by way of a chiral zipper system that allows accessories to be secured on top of a conventional mattress.

    • A device is disclosed for facilitating rotation of a mattress in a horizontal plane carried by a box spring or a platform. In order to facilitate rotation, slick surfaces between the mattress and the box spring or platform are selectively placed in contact in order to reduce the normal friction therebetween. The slick surfaces may be provided by two (2) separate covers; one cover for the mattress and one cover for the box spring or platform. A first cover is provided with a slick and non-slick surface. In order to further facilitate rotation, a second cover includes a slick surface on one side and forms part of a levitation device. The other side of the second cover may be formed with a slick or a non-slick surface. The levitation device creates an air cushion between the mattress and the box spring under the influence of an air supply which lifts the mattress and allows the mattress to be rotated in a horizontal plane virtually effortlessly. Once the mattress has been rotated to the desired position, the air supply is removed and the first cover is attached to the underside of the mattress so that its non-slick side is in contact with the box spring or platform or bed skirt and its slick side is in contact with the slick side of the other cover and the levitation device defining a normal mode of operation. In a rotate mode of operation, the first cover is attached to the box spring or platform so that its non-slick surface is in contact therewith. Alternatively, the first cover may be integrally incorporated into the box spring or a slick surface may be integrally formed on the platform that forms part of the platform bed. In this embodiment, in order to reduce movement of the mattress with respect to the box spring or platform, the mattress is secured relative to the box spring or platform by removable fasteners in a normal mode of operation. In yet another alternate embodiment of the invention, a portion of the levitation device may be built into the mattress.
