    • A linear surgical stapling instrument includes a magazine for holding a plurality of undeformed surgical staples, and an upper jaw carrying the magazine and having opposed distal and proximal ends. An anvil is formed with staple-deforming pockets, and a lower jaw carries the anvil and has opposing distal and proximal ends respectively configured to mate with the distal and proximal ends of the upper jaw thereby to place the magazine and the anvil in confronting relation. A staple driver is carried in the upper jaw for driving staples held therein toward the anvil. Further, the upper and lower jaws are configured such that, when their respective distal and proximal ends are mated, a gap exists between the jaws in an intermediate region between their respective distal and proximal ends. Finally, a pivotably mounted clamp bar joins the upper and lower jaws and when actuated compresses them together in the intermediate region thereby to narrow the gap and to increase the clamping pressure between the magazine and the anvil. The instrument also includes a blocking system that prevents the jaws from being remated, once having been mated and having had staples in the magazine driven toward the anvil. Still further, the instrument includes a coupling device for coupling the jaws and clamp bar together when the staple driver is actuated.

    • There is disclosed a night vision imaging system for mounting on a helmet. The helmet contains a visor having a slot into which is inserted a helmet mount assembly which can be vertically adjusted within the slot by means of a control mechanism including a rotatable knob. The mount assembly is an arcuate planar member conforming to the surface of the helmet and contains two "U" shaped receptacles for receiving two pivots located on a central fork support frame. The fork frame has two adjacent tines which are secured within two slots contained in a gear box. Coupled to the gear box are right and left carriage assemblies which interface with the gear box by means of a first threaded shaft to afford eye relief adjustment and a second rod assembly to afford tilt adjustment. Each carriage assembly is symmetrically positioned on the right and left sides of the gear box assembly and are coupled to a first and a second unity power image intensifier telescope housing containing an image intensifier tube. The carriage assembly is coupled to the tube housing to move in a horizontal plane for eye relief by contacting either a right or left knob coupled to the threaded shaft at right and left sides. The gear box, carriage assemblies, and intensifier housing as supported by the fork frame, can be "flipped-up" and away from the eyes of a user when the night vision system is not in use or can be "flipped-down" in front of the user's eyes when in use.

    • A sample case assembly has a pair of open ended containers each of which is supported by one section of a two-section wheeled base member or dolly. The dolly sections are pivotally joined together and with their respective display enclosures are pivoted horizontally between open and closed positions. The containers may be hinged together on one side to form sample cases and detachably connected to the dolly. A plurality of sample cases may be stacked one above the other on the dolly and aligned to pivot open simultaneously with opening of the dolly sections. A transport handle is attached to the uppermost case to facilitate mobility of the assembly.

    • An implantable prosthesis for occluding the opening of a muscle or tissue defect. The implant is laparoscopically deliverable with a system for loading and delivering the prosthesis through a trocar cannula. The prosthesis includes an implantable material with a body portion sufficient to extend across and occlude a defect opening. Antimigration barbs extend from the implantable material to prevent migration of the prosthesis after implantation. A semi-rigid ring may be attached to the material for supporting the body portion. The barbs may be located on the ring. The implantable prosthesis may be provided with a sufficient hoop strength to prevent the body portion from collapsing into the defect opening.
