    • A matrix drill bit and method of manufacturing a matrix bit having back raked cutting elements is disclosed. In one aspect, a matrix drill bit for well drilling includes a matrix bit body that has a front area in a direction of drilling and two or more diamond impregnated cutting blades protruding from the front area of the matrix bit body. The cutting blades each have a front external surface protruding from the front area of the matrix bit body and present a plurality of back raked downhole interface surfaces in the direction of drilling. The downhole interface surfaces span a leading face and a trailing face where the leading face extends to a first height and the trailing face extends to a second height and the first height is greater than the second height.

    • Three dimensional printing equipment and techniques may be used in combination with three dimensional design data associated with well drilling equipment and well completion equipment to form molds associated with manufacture of such equipment. For example, such molds may be used to form a bit body or other components associated with a rotary drill bit. For some applications composite or matrix materials may be placed in the mold to form a matrix bit body. Heat transfer characteristics of the mold may be optimized for heating and/or cooling of the matrix materials to provide optimum fracture resistant (toughness) and optimum erosion, abrasion and/or wear resistance for portions of the bit body. Such molds may also be used to form steel bit bodies associated with fixed cutter rotary drill bits and other components associated with a wide variety of well drilling equipment and well completion equipment.

    • An underreaming tool may include a tubular body, a drive tube, at least one blade element (“the blade element”), at least one wedge element (“the wedge element”), and a stop mechanism. The drive tube may include at least one longitudinal groove (“the longitudinal groove”) axially disposed along a length of the drive tube. The wedge element may include a first side having at least one lateral projection (“the lateral projection”) configured to axially slide into the longitudinal groove to couple the wedge element to the drive tube. The stop mechanism comprises a threaded sleeve configured to screw onto the drive tube to lock the wedge element in the longitudinal groove once the lateral projection is slid into the longitudinal groove.
