    • An improved apparatus and method for joining two or more thin sheets of thermoplastic materials along a welded seam includes a welding assembly and a means for feeding the thermoplastic sheets to the working area of the welding assembly. The welding assembly includes a heated platen welding press coupled with a welding tool, an energy generator electrically connected to the welding tool and control means electrically connected to the welding press, the welding tool and the energy generator. The welding press includes a pair of opposed platens, means for heating each of the platens and pressing means for displacing at least one of the opposed platens in the thickness direction of the thermoplastic sheets. Pressure is applied to the thermoplastic sheets by using the pressing means to displace at least one of the heated platens in the thickness direction of the thermoplastic sheets. Heat produced by the heating means is then transferred to the thermoplastic sheets by the heated platens to raise the temperature of the thermoplastic sheets in the area of the welded seam to a first predetermined temperature which is below the softening temperature of the thermoplastic materials. High frequency energy produced by the energy generator is then conducted to the thermoplastic sheets by the welding tool to raise the temperature of the thermoplastic sheets in the area of the welded seam to a second predetermined temperature which is above the softening temperature but below the melt point of the thermoplastic materials. Conduction of the high frequency energy is then discontinued so that the thermoplastic sheets fuse together along the welded seam under applied pressure. Application of the pressure is then discontinued so that the welded thermoplastic sheets may be removed from the welding assembly.

The side walls of the inner tank and outer shell are also spaced apart from each other by second side spacers which connect the tank and shell. The side spacers for connecting the tank and shell prevent the inner tank from floating within the outer shell when an insulating material, such as concrete, is added therebetween. The inner tank may be constructed of metal, fiberglass, fiberglass-coated metal, polyethylene, or other like materials, while the outer shell is steel.

    • A bus programmable slave module card 30 for use in a computer control system which comprises a master computer and one or more slave computer modules interfacing therewith by means of a bus and wherein each slave module includes its own microprocessor memory, and control program for acting as a single loop controller. The slave card includes a plurality of memory means corresponding to a like plurality of memory devices in the master computer, for each slave memory means its own communication lines connectable through the bus with memory communication lines of an associated memory device in the master computer, and a one-way electronic door which is switchable to either a closed condition or a one-way open condition. With the door closed, communication lines between master computer memory and slave memory are blocked. In the one-way open condition invention, the memory communication lines of each slave memory means connect with the memory communication lines of its associated memory device in the master computer, and the memory devices of the master computer and slave card are electrically parallel such that information seen by the master's memory is also seen by the slave's memory. The slave card is also connectable to a switch for electronically removing the slave microprocessor (45) from the system.

    • A head structure is disclosed which includes a novel deck, bulkhead and overhead coating which prevents moisture, especially corrosive sea water, or salt atmosphere from reaching the underlying deck, bulkhead or overhead even if the surface of the coating is damaged or penetrated. The coating provides an attractive and highly durable surface which is easily cleaned and resists staining or discoloring. The novel coating in connection with the unique head design allows a head to be easily and rapidly cleaned and maintained a daily basis by simple wash-and wipe techniques requiring minimal crew involvement time. This permits crew members to be able to devote more of their time to education and productive endeavors rather than to maintenance. The head has a deck, bulkhead and an overhead, most or all of which are susceptible to corrosion in the salt water environment. The structure of the head includes one or more lavatory fixtures (especially commodes or basins) mounted on the bulkhead, and a coating adhered to and covering the corrosion-susceptible deck, bulkhead or overhead metal surface, the coating including a porcelain, ceramic or terrazzo layer disposed adjacent to but spaced apart from the metal surface, a moisture-impervious membrane disposed between the porcelain, ceramic or terrazzo layer and the metal surface, and adhesive bonding the porcelain, ceramic or terrazzo layer to the membrane and the membrane to the metal surface.
