摘要： Techniques are provided for detecting lost writes so that data corruption can be avoided. According to one technique, lost writes are detected by comparing version numbers that are indicated in redo log entries with version numbers that are indicated in corresponding blocks in a standby database. According to one technique, which may be used in conjunction with the above technique, lost writes are detected by logging read operations that occur relative to a primary database, and comparing version numbers that are indicated in read log entries with version numbers that are indicated in corresponding blocks in a standby database. According to one technique, lost writes are detected by comparing, in response to read operations, (a) version numbers that are stored in a persistent in-memory cache with (b) version numbers that are indicated in corresponding blocks that are read from a primary database.

摘要： A storage device uses non-volatile memory devices for caching. The storage device operates in a mode referred to herein as write-back mode. In write-back mode, a storage device responds to a request to write data by persistently writing the data to a cache in a non-volatile memory device and acknowledges to the requestor that the data is written persistently in the storage device. The acknowledgement is sent without necessarily having written the data that was requested to be written to primary storage. Instead, the data is written to primary storage later.

摘要： A pluggable tablespace is enabled by logically partitioning a database into a set of tablespaces and storing all of the tablespaces disk pointers in tablespace-relative format. A pluggable set of tablespaces is unplugged by generating the associated metadata, and making a binary copy of the tablespaces. The pluggable set of tablespaces is plugged into a target database by making the pluggable set accessible to the target database and incorporating the associated metadata, without patching any of the disk pointers.

摘要： A database containing datafiles is partitioned into a set of tablespaces. Every disk pointer pointing to a data item in a datafile refers to a tablespace-relative file number for the datafile. Data pointed to by a tablespace-relative disk pointer is retrieved by first checking the cache, and upon a cache miss, the tablespace-relative file number is translated into an absolute file number according to a latch-free look up technique.

摘要： Every node in a multi-node parallel database system maintains a logical clock for generating timestamps. The logical clocks are synchronized by attaching a current timestamp to every message that is sent by a node. When a node receives an incoming timestamp that is greater than the value indicated by the associated logical clock, it sets the associated logical clock forward to at least the value of the timestamp. Each node continually sends and receives a message including a timestamp at least once in a prescribed period of time. Moreover, each node maintains a high watermark that represents a time greater or equal to the highest time of any logical clock in the multi-node parallel database system.

摘要： A method and apparatus for creating a target database on a target platform based on a source database on a source platform is provided. A target database is created on the target platform based on data, metadata (for example, data in the system tablespace and control files), and external objects (for example, password files and externally stored tables) comprised within the source database. Data and metadata stored in tablespaces of the source database are converted to the format compatible with the target platform. The conversion of the data and metadata may be performed either at the source database or the target database. Redo information and undo information of the source database are not copied from the source database to the target database. Certain files, e.g., a password files, and links to externally stored object may be recreated on the target database.
