    • A rotating leno forming device includes a leno disk (3) that has leno thread guides (5) therein and that itself forms a part of the rotor (2) of an electromagnetic drive arrangement. In order to achieve a very compact bearing support arrangement, shield the moving parts against external contamination, and provide for the detection of the rotational position of the leno disk, the leno device further includes a roller or ball bearing (6) of which the outer bearing race (6A) is rigidly connected to the leno disk (3), and of which the inner bearing race (6B) is rigidly connected to a centering holder (9) that is rigidly connected to a housing (8) of the leno device. Permanent magnets (7) are arranged around the circumference of the rotor (2) and cooperate with an electromagnetic stator (11) secured in the housing (8). A position sensor system (10) includes at least one signal emitter (13) mounted on the rotor (2) and a plurality of signal receivers or sensors (14) mounted on the housing (8).

    • A rotating leno forming device includes a leno disk (3) that has leno thread guides (5) therein and that itself forms a part of the rotor (2) of an electromagnetic drive arrangement. In order to achieve a very compact structure, the components are so arranged to achieve an axially directed magnetic flux between the rotor (2) and an electromagnetic stator (10) arranged in the housing (8). A rolling contact bearing rotatably supports the leno disk (3), with a first bearing race (6A) connected to the housing (8) and a second bearing race (6B) connected to the leno disk (3). Permanent magnets (7) are arranged on an annular ring surface (3A) of the leno disk (3) extending along a radial plane, so as to face the electromagnetic stator (10) across an air gap (11) that extends on a radial plane. The thread guides (5) in the leno disk (3) face the stator (10) so that the leno threads (13A, 14A) constantly move through the air gap (11) preventing the accumulation of lint or fibers therein, during operation of the device. An iron yoke ring (3B) may be arranged to rotate with the leno disk (3) or to remain stationary with the stator (10), so as to provide a magnetic return or back circuit.

    • A leno selvage device for a loom has a leno rotor ring (7) which is directly driven by its own reversible electric motor, for example, through a power transmission such as a gear belt (6) running around a drive gear pulley (5). The controllable electric motor (20) is operated through a respective program for either oscillating the leno rotor back and forth, e.g. through 180.degree. or for revolving the leno rotor for a number of revolutions in one direction and then for the same number of revolutions in the opposite direction and so forth. The arrangement is such that the central rotational axis (5A) of the drive pulley (5) and the central rotational axis (7A) of the leno rotor ring (7) are positioned in different geometrical planes relative to a carrier arm (2), but in parallel to each other and to the weft insertion direction. The carrier arm (2) provides a plurality of bearing rollers which support the leno rotor ring or disk (7) at the outer circumference thereof by at least two, preferably three guide rollers.

    • A controlled weft thread presenting and clamping arrangement minimizes weft thread waste and ensures proper tensioning of the weft thread during its presentation to the insertion gripper, in a gripper loom for weaving with plural different weft threads. The arrangement includes a control shaft (13) that has a drive key (14) protruding therefrom in a reference plane (7), and that is rotatably supported on a support bracket (10, 11, 12), which may be mounted on the loom. Weft thread presenting levers (15) each carrying a respective clamp (16) are movably arranged on the shaft (13), which passes through a hole in each of the presenting levers (15). A translational drive (22) acts on a presenting lever support (17) to translationally move all of the presenting levers (15) in unison together axially along the shaft (13) until a selected lever (15) is positioned in the reference plane (7), with the lever's drive groove 15B engaged on the drive key (14) of the shaft (13). A rotational drive (23) rotates the shaft (13), and therewith the selected thread presenting lever (15) via the drive key (14). A guide member (19) has a lengthwise groove (20) to allow all of the presenting levers (15) to move linearly therealong in unison, and a crosswise groove (21) in the reference plane (7) to allow only the selected presenting lever (15) to rotate in the reference plane. A thread back tensioning device (9) is arranged in the thread path to apply tension to the thread being presented to the gripper.

    • The warp threads in a loom are cooled, in order to prevent damage to the warp threads due to heat generation by the contact between the warp threads and loom components. Such contact can generate temperatures of 50.degree. to 80.degree. C. due to thread friction and thread shifting, whereby capillary breaks of the warp threads are caused so that continued weaving becomes impossible. Such heat generation is avoided by cooling the loom components which contact the warp threads. A cooling fluid is circulated through the warp thread contacting components. The cooling fluid may be a liquid or a gas. At least the leasing or fulling mill is cooled in this manner. The cooling is preferably carried out to such an extent that condensation water forms on the surfaces of the cooled components, whereby the condensation water acts as a lubricant for the warp threads.

    • A reed drive of a loom comprises a reed shaft (3) connected to the reed (1). A conversion gearing (7, 8) each having a respective input element (11, 12) and a respective output element (13, 14) is located at the ends of the reed shaft (3). The input elements (11, 12) are coupled to the driven shafts (23, 24) of electromotive rotary drives (19, 20) for effecting a common rotational motion of the same rotational speed. The conversion gearings (7, 8), alone, serve to convert the rotating motion of their input elements into a motion of the output elements (13, 14) whose direction of rotation can be reversed. To this end, the output elements (13, 14) are coupled to the reed shaft (3) in a rotationally fixed manner. As a result, a motion cycle of an input element (11, 12) corresponds to the motion of the reed (1) from one reed stop to the next reed stop so that the number of complete rotations of an input element (11, 12) is equal to the number of complete motion cycles that the reed shaft (3) executes in the same unit of time.
