    • Certain embodiments of the invention may include systems, methods, and apparatus for recording three dimensional audio. According to an example embodiment of the invention, the method may include orienting a three-dimensional (3-D) microphone with respect to a predetermined spatial direction, selectively receiving sounds from one or more directions corresponding to directional receiving elements, recording the selectively received sounds in a 3-D recorder having a plurality of recording channels, recording time code in at least one channel of the 3-D recorder; and mapping the recorded channels to a plurality of output channels.

    • Certain embodiments of the invention may include systems, methods, and apparatus for calibrating speakers for three dimensional acoustical reproduction. According to an example embodiment of the invention, a method is provided for initializing a plurality of speakers in a 3D acoustical reproduction system. The method can include positioning one or more calibration microphones near a listener position, generating calibration tones, selectively routing calibration tones to one or more of the plurality of speakers, producing audible tones from the plurality of speakers based on the generated calibration tones, sensing audible tones from the plurality of speakers with the one or more calibration microphones, determining one or more parameters associated with the plurality of speakers based on sensing the audible tones, and modifying settings of the 3D acoustical reproduction system based on the one or more determined parameters.
