摘要： A method for immobilizing dyes and antimicrobial agents on a polymeric cover or housing for a medical device is disclosed and described. The surface may be that of a catheter, a connector, a drug vial spike, a bag spike, a prosthetic device, an endoscope, a surface of an infusion pump, a key pad, a touch screen or a handle. The surfaces may also be one or more of those associated with a infusion of a medicament or dialysis treatment, such as peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis, where it is important that the working surface for the dialysis fluid be sterile. These surfaces include connectors for peritoneal dialysis sets or for hemodialysis sets, bag spikes, dialysis catheters, and so forth. A method for determining whether a surface has been sterilized, and a dye useful in so indicating, is also disclosed.

摘要： An infusion pump, including: a specially programmed microprocessor; a drip chamber for connection to a source of fluid and to an output tubing; a pumping section including a plurality of fingers and a first actuator, controllable using the microprocessor, for sequentially displacing the plurality of finger to compress a first portion of the output tubing to displace fluid from the drip chamber through the output tubing; an inlet valve disposed between the drip chamber and the pumping section and arranged to compress the output tubing to restrict or block flow through the output tubing; and a second actuator, controllable using the microprocessor, for opening or closing the inlet valve independent of the displacement of the plurality of fingers; or for operating the inlet valve to control a rate of flow of fluid from the drip chamber to the portion of the output tubing.

A fluid infusion system includes a pump for delivering a fluid to a patient via an administration tube. A flow sensor associated with the administration tube provides an indication of the actual flow rate of fluid in the administration tube. Such a flow sensor may comprise a positive displacement flow sensor constructed using micro-fabrication and/or micro-molding techniques. A reader reads the actual flow rate signal and provides an indication to a controller for controlling the pump. The flow rate information can also be used for providing status information, such as the existence of a blockage in the fluid delivery system.

摘要： An infusion pump, including: a microprocessor; a drip chamber; a drip tube with an end in the drip chamber; and an illumination system: with a light source for transmitting light through the drip chamber to a drop of fluid suspended from the drip tube; and for controlling illumination properties of the light transmitted to the drop. The pump includes an optical system for: receiving light transmitted through the drop; and transmitting, to the microprocessor, data regarding the received light. The microprocessor: generates, using the data, an image of the drop; locates, using the image, an outer edge of the drop to define a boundary of the drop; integrates an area enclosed by the boundary; and calculates a volume of revolution for the drop with respect to an axis for the drop that intersects the end of the drip tube, assuming symmetry of the drop with respect to the axis.

Generally, the medical device 10 has a controller 12, a memory 14, a processor 16 and an input device 18. The memory 14 is preloaded with at least one of a plurality of patient profiles and condition profiles. The memory 14 is further preloaded with an associated medication therapy for a plurality of the profiles. The input device 18 receives profile data 90, 91 comprising at least one of a patient profile data and a condition profile data for a specific patient, and the processor 16 processes the received profile data 100 and provides as output one of the preloaded medication therapies based on the processed profile data 102.

摘要： A system and method is disclosed for a remote multi-purpose user interface for medical devices and systems within a healthcare/medication delivery system and/or medication information technology system. The multi-purpose user interface has a housing, a processor, a memory, a communications interface for providing communication between the user interface and a medical device/controller and for providing communications between the user interface and a first central computer, and a display for displaying a medical prompt and for displaying medical information received from the first central computer. A system and method is also disclosed for medical data tracking, analyzing and reporting within a healthcare system. The system can further integrate vital signs and infusion pump monitoring and reporting, and allow for enhanced provision of medical care through interface screens which combine this functionality. The system can also provide for control from a central interface screen utilizing this integrated functionality.
