    • A liquid crystal display device, without light leakage in a black display mode, is provided. The liquid crystal display (LCD) device includes a LCD panel, a light source, and an optical filter between the LCD and the light source. When the LCD panel is in the black display mode without the optical filter, leakage light leaking from the LCD panel in an oblique direction shows a hue having a local minimum value in a wavelength range from 450 nm to 550 nm. Normal incident light entering into the LCD in a normal direction shows a hue same as that of light just emitted from the light source, and oblique incident light entering into the LCD panel in an oblique direction shows a hue having a local maximum value in a wavelength range from 400 nm to less than 550 nm.

    • A liquid crystal display device according to the present invention includes a liquid crystal panel, a backlight source provided on a rear surface of the liquid crystal panel, for irradiating the liquid crystal panel with white light, and an optical film provided between the liquid crystal panel and the backlight source, in which the optical film includes a base material which passes the white light irradiated from the backlight source, a colored layer partially provided on one surface of the base material at the side of the liquid crystal, panel, and a reflective layer provided on another surface of the base material at the side of the backlight source opposite to the colored layer, for reflecting the white light.

    • A pedestrian detection apparatus of the present invention extracts a whole-body region and a prospective head region based on a pattern matching between an input image picked up by an infrared camera and whole-body/head model images stored in a model-image storage unit. If the whole-body region has not been recognized, the prospective head region which is at the closest position to a prospective head region recognized from a preceding input image is recognized from the current input image, and an image matching with the head model image of the recognized prospective head region is determined to be a head.
