    • A method of maintaining a surface charge on a photoreceptor within a predetermined voltage range is provided, comprising the steps of providing a charging device adjacent to a surface of the photoreceptor, determining a reference voltage to be applied by the charging device to the photoreceptor surface to establish a first photoreceptor surface voltage, and applying the reference voltage to the surface of the moving photoreceptor with the charging device while measuring a first photoreceptor current. The method further comprises comparing the first photoreceptor current to predetermined characteristics of the photoreceptor to calculate a first output value, comparing the first output value to predetermined characteristics of the photoreceptor and calculating a first correction voltage, and applying the first correction voltage to the photoreceptor surface with the charging device to obtain a surface voltage on the photoreceptor that is within the predetermined operational voltage range.

    • Linear spot velocity or position variations are measured in a scanning system by a process and apparatus.     • This invention relates to a developing unit for maintaining constant density in an electrophotographic imaging process. The developing unit has a developer roll, wherein the developer roll provides a surface and a first voltage is applied to the developer roll; a skive device, wherein the skive device is positioned in contact with the developer roll and a second voltage is applied to the skive device; a cleaning device for the developer roll, wherein the cleaning device is in contact with the developer roll; and an ink container, wherein the developer roll and the cleaning device are inside the ink container. It is preferred that a current measuring device is present to measure current flow between skive device and the developer, or a voltage meter is present to measure a voltage across a known resistor that is in series with the power supply to the skive device.

    • An electrophotographic imaging process includes the steps of (a) providing an organophotoreceptor belt having a photoconductive element on an electrically conductive substrate and a seam; (b) providing an imaging apparatus comprising a developer roll; (c) mounting the organophotoreceptor belt on the imaging apparatus; (d) applying a first voltage to the photoconductive element; (e) applying a second voltage to the developer roll when the seam is at a distance less than 10% of the circumference of the organophotoreceptor belt from the developer roll, otherwise applying a third voltage; (f) applying a fourth voltage to the electrically conductive substrate; (g) moving the organophotoreceptor belt; (h) imagewise exposing the surface of the organophotoreceptor belt to radiation to reduce voltage in selected areas and thereby form a pattern of high voltage and low voltage areas on the surface; (i) contacting the surface with a liquid ink comprising colorant particles in an organic liquid to create an image; and (j) transferring the toned image to a receiving medium; wherein the second voltage is equal or less than the fourth voltage when the first and third voltage are positive or the second voltage is equal or greater than the fourth voltage when the first and third voltage are negative.

    • A method and apparatus for minimizing image banding and for registering multiple image planes of a single image on a receptor drum in electrographic systems. The system for registering multiple image planes of a single image in an electrographic system includes a receptor drum capable of capturing two or more overlaying image planes, an exposure device for forming overlaying image planes on the receptor drum, and at least one developer station transferring a developer to the receptor drum corresponding to each of the overlaying image planes. A measuring device is provided for measuring the rotational position of the receptor drum. A drive mechanism is provided for controlling a motor coupled to the receptor drum by at least one drive belt. A closed loop positioning system is coupled to the measuring device and the drive mechanism. The closed loop positioning system is capable of modulating the angular velocity of the receptor drum to achieve image plane registration of the two or more image planes. The system is capable of achieving image plane registration error of preferably about 100 micrometers or less, more preferably about 50 micrometers or less, and most preferably about 20 micrometers or less. The system is capable of achieving image plane registration error of about .+-.0.5 scan lines or less.
