    • This invention provides a relay connection unit that relay message and make sufficient number of branches to be able to connect a plurality of ECUs. The relay connection unit includes: reception connectors to which a plurality of insertion connectors of communication lines can respectively be connected; a branch connection unit that divides the reception connectors into a plurality of groups, the branch connection unit branch-connecting the communication lines through the reception connectors belonging to the respective groups; a plurality of vehicle-mounted LAN communication units respectively connecting to each of the groups of the reception connectors via the branch connection unit, which are configured to perform transmission/reception of messages; and a relay processing unit that relays an incoming message received via one of the vehicle-mounted LAN communication units to another of the vehicle-mounted LAN communication units of another relay connection unit in accordance with a relaying destination.

    • A vehicle electronic control apparatus (1) includes an electronic control section (2) received in an accommodating cavity (23) in an instrument panel (22) in an automotive vehicle for controlling electronic equipments in the vehicle and a switch section (3) detachably attached to the electronic control section (2) for applying command signals to the electronic control section (2). The switch section (3) is provided with a communication function part (27) which serves as a local area network (LAN) manager so that the electronic control section (2) can control the electronic equipments. This construction enables an expensive electronic control section (2) to be used in common in different types of automotive vehicle regardless of presence or absence of the vehicle LAN. The switch section (3) having the communication function part (27) can utilize the vehicle LAN.

    • A vehicle communication control apparatus serves to distribute purposes of trouble diagnosis of vehicle electronic appliances in a group of networks, thereby enhancing an efficiency of trouble diagnosis and reducing a time required for the trouble diagnosis. A plurality of groups of networks to each of which vehicle electronic appliances (4, 5, 6) are connected are interconnected by first, second and third vehicle communication control apparatuses (10, 20, 30). The first, second, and third apparatuses (10, 20, 30) are provided with means for diagnosing a trouble of a vehicle electronic appliance (5 or 6) in one group of networks in response to a trouble diagnosis start command from a trouble diagnosis tester (8) for another vehicle electronic appliance (4) in the other group of networks and with means for storing results of trouble diagnosis concerning each vehicle electronic appliance (5 or 6) and for transmitting the results to the trouble diagnosis tester (8) in good time. It is possible to enhance an efficiency of each network since each network operates individualy during the trouble diagnosis.

    • Provided is an on-vehicle relay connection unit which forms a network by arranging electronic control units between buses to which the electronic control units are respectively connected and relays a message transmitted and received between the electronic control units belonging to the different buses. The relay connection unit includes a network management processing circuit of the relay connection unit and a storage device which stores as parameters, specification conditions of the network management functions held in the network management processing circuit and a condition which may be modified among the state transition conditions between the functions. Upon start of the relay connection unit, the network management processing circuit reads out the parameters from the storage device and executes the network management functions by using the parameters.
