    • Apparatus for decoding an error detecting or correcting code constructed from digital information data and redundant data for detecting or correcting errors in the digital information data, the digital information data and redundant data being reproduced from a record medium by a playback apparatus that operates in a normal speed mode and fast and slow speed modes, includes a first decoder for decoding the error detecting or correcting code and for generating flag data indicating error conditions of the digital information data, a first memory for storing the digital information data subjected to the decoding in the first decoder, and a second memory for storing flag data. A controller is provided with a mode signal indicating a normal playback mode or a fast playback mode of the record medium playback apparatus for controlling the first and second memories so as to read out the digital information data and flag data, respectively, when the mode signal indicates the normal reproducing mode and so as to read out the digital information data without error and the flag data, respectively, when the mode signal indicates the fast reproducing mode.

    • Left and right video cameras 18L and 18R are disposed on both sides of a front video camera 18M. Solid-pictorial video signals used upon signal transmission are generated by using video signals outputted from the left and right video cameras with respect to a video signal outputted from the front video camera. The left and right video cameras make use of simplified video cameras and are cameras with no zoom functions or the like. The video signals obtained from the left and right video cameras are used as signals for forming a solid picture. In the present example, only solid information with respect to a main picture is transmitted as a video signal to reduce the amount of transmission. Since a motion-compensated DCT encode process using the front video signal as a reference picture is performed to extract only the video signal having the solid information from the left and right video signals. Since the simplified video cameras can be utilized, solid-pictorial video signals can be generated at low cost.

    • A video signal processing circuit carries out error correction, error concealment and weighted mean processing sequentially on video signals reproduced by a video tape recorder. One and two dimensional error concealment modes are provided respectively utilizing sample data on the same line as erroneous sample data to be concealed, and sample data in peripheral and/or time displaced relation to the erroneous sample data. One of a plurality of error concealment modes is selected depending upon the state of error flags for the peripheral and/or time displaced sample data. In certain advantageous embodiments, original sample data for which a gray code has been set, is compared with error concealed data and the original sample data is output in place of the error concealed data where such comparison indicates that the difference between the two is within a predetermined acceptance threshold.Weighted mean sample data processing provides the capability of producing a first field of a video signal from a second field thereof by summing sample data from a plurality of lines of the second field to form the signals of the first field. In certain advantageous embodiments, the signals of the second field are multiplied by selectably variable coefficients, the selection of which is based on a detection that at least one of the line signals of the second field is outside an effective image information portion thereof.
