    • Logical volume management for storage subsystem in virtual machine environment is disclosed. In one embodiment, a storage system comprises a storage subsystem including a processor, a memory, one or more virtual disks, and one or more logical disks each corresponding to a physical storage area in the storage subsystem; and a host computer connected with the storage subsystem via a network, the host computer including virtual machines running thereon, the virtual machines each being connected to at least one of the virtual disks or logical disks in the storage subsystem. In the storage subsystem, abstract disks each represent one of the virtual disks or logical disks. An abstract disk management table is stored in the memory of the storage subsystem to manage a relationship between the abstract disks and the one or more virtual disks and between the abstract disks and the one or more logical disks.

    • Exemplary embodiments of the invention provide logical volume management for a storage subsystem in a virtual machine environment. In one embodiment, a storage system comprises a storage subsystem including a processor, a memory, one or more virtual disks, and one or more logical disks each corresponding to a physical storage area in the storage subsystem; and a host computer connected with the storage subsystem via a network, the host computer including a plurality of virtual machines running thereon, the virtual machines each being connected to at least one of the virtual disks or logical disks in the storage subsystem. In the storage subsystem, abstract disks each represent one of the virtual disks or logical disks. An abstract disk management table is stored in the memory of the storage subsystem to manage a relationship between the abstract disks and the one or more virtual disks and between the abstract disks and the one or more logical disks.

    • Provided is a storage apparatus operable to prevent incomplete backup and perform efficient backup even in systems characterized by a relatively small backup window and high degrees of utilization by users. This storage apparatus performs a snapshot of a volume storing data, using a logoff or login request at a certain point in time within in the backup window as a trigger, and creates a replication volume of the volume based on the acquired snapshot. To achieve the data consistency, when a login request is made, the storage apparatus temporarily suspends processing for establishing a session until the snapshot is created, and resumes such processing for establishing the session based on a login request after the snapshot is created. In one implementation, the replication volume is created in the background.

    • A bending angle detection system capable of detecting a bending angle of a workpiece with high accuracy, wherein taking into account the fact that the brightness of a linear image formed on a surface of a workpiece is higher than that of a linear image formed on other areas than the workpiece, linear images picked up from the workpiece are automatically sorted out from linear images picked up from other areas according to differences in the brightness values of the linear images so that only the data representative of the linear images formed on the workpiece can be extracted.A linear projected light image formed on the workpiece surface is picked up by a CCD camera, a representative pixel of each scanning line on the picked up, multi-valued linear image is calculated by a representative pixel detecting unit. Based on the frequency distribution of the brightness values of the representative pixels, the workpiece representative pixel extracting unit extracts only the representative pixels associated with the linear projected light image formed on the workpiece from all the representative pixels. Based on the extracted representative pixels, a representative straight line is calculated to obtain a bending angle of the workpiece.
