    • A technique is provided for adding an annotation to a document described in a markup language. Upon acquisition of a document described in a markup language, a document processing apparatus 100 acquires a first definition file that specifies a processing method for elements included in the document, and a second definition file that specifies a processing method for elements that provide a function of adding an annotation to the document. A definition file combining unit 88 inserts the second definition file in the first definition file. The second definition file includes a description that specifies a display format for elements that provide a function of adding an annotation, and a description that specifies a processing method for adding/deleting an element that provides a function of adding an annotation, to/from the document. The document processing apparatus 100 displays the document with annotations according to the aforementioned description.

    • A document management system includes a document processing apparatus which performs processing, such as editing of a document; and a document management server which manages division and combining of the document thus created. The document processing apparatus transmits an XML document thus created to the document management server, and requests to store the document. In this stage, in a case that the XML document includes proper nouns, the proper nouns are stored in the form of a separate file. Upon reception of a request from the document processing apparatus to acquire the XML document stored in the document management server, the document management server certifies the user of the requesting document processing apparatus. Then, the document management server combines the proper nouns with the XML document in an appropriate manner according to the certification level, and transmits the XML document thus combined to the document processing apparatus.

    • The present invention allows the user to insert data into a document described in a markup language in a simple manner. A data acquisition unit 308 receives an instruction to select a part of a processing target document. A property acquisition unit 314 receives information with respect to the tag structure included in the document. A tag creating unit 330 creates at least one tag, which is to be added to the part of the processing target document thus selected by the data acquisition unit 308, based upon the tag structure information received by the property acquisition unit 314. The tag adding unit 332 creates several duplicates of the selected part of the processing target document according to the number of tag combinations created by the tag creating unit 330. Furthermore, the tag adding unit 332 adds each of the multiple kinds of tag combinations to the respective duplicate of the selected part of the document thus created. Memory 334 stores the multiple versions of the selected part of the document output from the tag adding unit 332.

    • A document processing apparatus that acquires a definition file associated with a document file that stores information that serves as a key for acquiring fragments. The definition file specifies a rule used for acquiring the fragments from other document files based upon the key stored in the document file. The document processing apparatus reads out sub-document files based upon the key specified in the document file and the rule specified in the definition file. The document processing apparatus arranges these fragments thus acquired so as to build a virtual document, and presents the virtual document thus built to the user.

A data acquisition unit 308 receives data which is to be inserted into a document via a user interface unit 302. Furthermore, determination is made whether or not the data set selected by the user can be inserted into the processing target document according to the processing target vocabulary or the processing target schema. In a case that determination has been made that the insertion can be made, determination is made to insert the data.

    • A technique is provided, which allows structured data to be properly processed. A VC unit associates each element included in a document with a destination tree using a corresponding template described in a definition file, thereby advancing the processing of the document. In a case that the document includes an element which is not described in the definition file in a form of a template, the VC unit requests a main unit to transfer the processing of the element to another suitable processing system. The main control unit selects the processing system that is capable of processing such an element, and transfers the processing to the suitable processing system. Alternatively, in a case that the document includes an element which is not described in the definition file in a form of a template, the VC unit reads out another definition file that is capable of performing processing of the element, and imports the definition file thus selected into the former definition file.
