    • A barrel polishing machine includes an electrically conductive inner container for containing workpieces, the inner container having a number of holes formed in a circumferential wall thereof so that an electrolyte supplied to the workpieces passes through the holes, an electrically conductive outer container disposed to surround the inner container with a predetermined gap between them, a pair of electrode terminals connected to the inner and outer containers respectively so that the containers serve as electrodes with polarity opposite each other, respectively, an insulator interposed between the inner and outer containers with a predetermined gap between the same and each container, and a drive source supplying a rotational or vibratory force to the inner container. The gap between the inner and outer containers is 10 millimeters long or below. The barrel polishing machine may be diverted to an electroplating machine when the polarity is inverted.

    • A long-travel annular vibratory barrel finishing apparatus for line-processing has an annular vibratory barrel constituted by at least one barrel line having opposing end barrel segments with a semicircular shape in plan and two straight barrel sections connected between opposing end barrel segments, such that the longer diameter (length) of said annular barrel is much greater than the shorter diameter (breadth) of the same. The annular vibratory barrel as a whole is mounted on a base through a plurality of springs for free vibration which is caused by a vibrator disposed at the center of the longitudinal axis of the annular vibratory barrel. As the vibrator is started, the annular vibratory barrel is vibrated to cause a spiral flow of mass therein. A workpiece transfer device is installed in association with the annular vibratory barrel or, alternatively, a workpiece charging device and a workpiece separating device are provided on the annular vibratory barrel, so that successive workpieces are line-processed automatically and continuously. The workpiece transfer device is arranged above the annular vibratory barrel in parallel with the latter, and is adapted to drive spindles carrying workpieces along the barrel while rotating the spindle. A workpiece chucking/unchucking section is provided at a portion of the path of the workpiece. The workpiece charging device and the workpiece separating device are disposed in parallel with each other at one end portion of the annular vibratory barrel.

    • A vibratory barrel finishing machine comprises a single or multiple barrel arrangement of an elongated elliptical form in plan view including semicircular barrel sections at the opposite ends thereof and straight longitudinal barrel sections running in parallel and connecting between the opposite semi-circular barrel sections, the semi-circular barrel sections having descending-slope path in the direction of the flow of a mass (a mixture of unfinished workpieces and abrasive media) and straight barrel sections having ascending-slope path in the direction of the mass flow. The machine further includes workpiece guide means or workpiece advance control means which both provides the constant and smooth travel of the mass, particularly around the corners of the barrel structure, thus preventing the individual workpieces from impingement each other.

    • An improved vibratory finishing apparatus with a vibratory finishing tub formed like a hollow circular annular trough disposed in a horizontal, ascending- or descending-slope arrangement, the tub having therein a limited accumulating space defined by a known stationary dam of triangular shape at the bottom, a known movable flap member provided with an anti-backflow member thereon, at least one guide plate for guiding a mass including workpieces and media into the space and preventing the backflow of the mass, and at least one closure rigidly or removably mounted on upper open portions of the tub and for controlling the flow of the mass moving up in the space. As a flow of the mass is pushed into the space, it is accumulated to form an accumulated mass which is then pushed out onto the mass separating device or sieve. The space so constructed serves to prevent the backflow of the accumulated mass, and ensures an increased rate of finishing work and a better mass separation.

    • A method for finishing workpieces which are caused to flow in a helical motion together with abrasive media within a circular vibratory finishing tub in the form of a hollow annulus closed at both ends, and more particularly for vibratory finishing of workpieces together with abrasive media in a heavily compressed condition and for separating the mass (a mixture of workpieces and abrasive media) into workpieces and abrasive media. The apparatus for carrying out the method has a downwardly inclined or horizontal circular vibratory finishing tub having an opening at the top which is closed in operation, in the form of a hollow annulus, having the radially greatest sectional area at the central portion thereof and the sectional area being gradually smaller toward both ends thereof, so that the mass is caused to flow during vibration with an increased density resulting in a substantially compressed condition of the mass so that workpieces and abrasive media are caused to move in a closely spaced relation which would otherwise be eliminated at every vibration. By this arrangement the vibrating pressure and action between workpieces and abrasive media are improved and the mass separating efficiency as well as the smoothness of the finished surfaces are also improved considerably.
