    • A three-bale load is accumulated on the trailer as bales issue from the rear of the baler, whereupon the accumulated bales may be dumped all at the same location or singly as may be desired. Successive bales issuing from the baler arrive at a central platform from which they are alternately distributed to laterally disposed side platforms in an automated procedure. Once a side platform receives its bale, lockout mechanism prevents the transfer device from presenting the side platform with another bale until such time as the previous bale has been dumped. Once a bale has been dumped from a platform, the transfer device is automatically actuated, if indeed the next bale is ready to be transferred, for loading of the next bale onto the awaiting side platform. Special mechanism is employed to actuate a hydraulic valve of the transfer device in alternately opposite directions, notwithstanding the fact that the triggering input from a sensor that perceives the arrival of the next bale on the center platform is always in the same direction.

    • An electrical circuit is provided for testing for an open circuit or short circuit in an inductive coil, solenoid, or the like. The preferred circuit includes a computer activated device for selectively imposing a direct current voltage on a coil, a detector for detecting current flow through the coil induced by the voltage and for producing a current flow signal indicative of the magnitude of the current flow, a comparator for comparing the current signal with the reference signal and for producing respective first and second comparison signals when the current flow magnitude is respectively less than or greater than a reference magnitude, and a computer for determining whether the respective first and second comparison signals are produced during respective first and second points in time, such being a test indicative of the electrical integrity of the coil, solenoid, or the like.

    • A hay baler provided with a tubular duct within which charges of crop material are prepared before being stuffed into the baling chamber has a windrow pickup device at its front end to lift crop materials off the ground as the baler advances. The effective operating width of the pickup is wider than the inlet to the duct so that the stream of crop materials lifted off the ground must be converged centrally into alignment with the inlet before entering the same. A pair of lower stub augers on opposite sides of the inlet are assisted by a pair of upper stub augers rotating in opposite directions relative to the lower augers to accomplish such convergence. A windguard overlies the incoming crop flow as well as the consolidation zone between left and right sets of the stub augers so as to maintain effective control over the flow at all times.

    • Instead of using the compacting plunger of the baler to unload one or more bales from the bale chamber, an auxiliary ejector system may be utilized that enables the operator to select only the last bale for off-loading, or both the last bale and the next-to-last bale. A shuttle assembly housed almost entirely within hollow rails of the bale case has a number of ejector dogs that need not all be placed in operating position simultaneously, thus permitting the operator to choose to actuate only those dogs which are necessary to off-load the bale he selects. The shuttle is repeatedly actuated and retracted through ejecting and reset strokes until the selected bale or bales are fully off-loaded. During the reset strokes the spring-loaded dogs are yieldably folded down under the pressure of the overhead bale so as to avoid retrograde movement of the bale. An inclined bale chute that receives the discharging bales and guides them to the ground may be selectively raised into a folded up transport position using the same power cylinder that drives the ejector shuttle, such powered raising of the chute being enabled when a normally disengaged coupling between the power cylinder and the chute is selectively engaged by the operator.
