    • An apparatus and method for changing a printing plate of a printing unit of a printing press is disclosed. A printing unit of a printing press, in particular a web-fed printing press, has at least one printing couple, where the, or each, printing couple includes a plate cylinder, a transfer cylinder, an inking system as well as, preferably, a dampening system. Each printing couple is allocated a printing plate changing device for executing a partially automatic or fully automatic printing plate change on the plate cylinder of the respective printing couple. The plate cylinder of each printing couple can be displaced between two positions in such a way that in a first position the plate cylinder is engaged on the inking system and disengaged from the printing plate changing device and in a second position is engaged on the printing plate changing device and disengaged from the inking system.

    • A printing unit of a rotary printing press with a transfer cylinder and a form cylinder interacting with the transfer cylinder is disclosed. The body length of the transfer cylinder and the form cylinder corresponds to six horizontal or upright print pages and the transfer cylinder has two channels offset by 180° in the circumferential direction to accommodate printing blankets. Two or three printing blankets are arranged next to one another in the longitudinal direction of the transfer cylinder. With the arrangement of three printing blankets, two adjacent printing blankets are attached in a channel and the third printing blanket is attached in the offset channel.

    • A printing unit of a web-fed rotary press has a plurality of press units, each press unit having a forme cylinder, a transfer cylinder, an inking unit and optionally a damping unit, and having at least one impression cylinder. The printing images which are arranged next to one another in the axial direction of the respective forme cylinder are offset with respect to one another in the circumferential direction in such a way that deviations in the circumferential register between the single-color printed images which are to be printed in different press units can be compensated for.

    • To form and hold a loose starting flap (5) of a replacement paper roll (1) in which the replacement paper roll has a starting portion which is adhered to an underlying layer of the roll, with a simple easily made and reliable apparatus, the uppermost layer of the roll is perforated by a perforating wheel (8) or an intermittently operated laser (1008) inwardly of the end edge of the starting portion along a perforation line (3) which extends essentially parallel to the axis of the roll to form a flap portion. A temporary or permanently adhering element, such as a suction roll (912), a suction bar, an adhesively coated strip or bar (812) or a roller (912) with an adhesive surface (9, 909, 912) is moved with respect to the flap portion close to the perforation line (3). The adhering element is then moved relative to the roll, either away from the circumference, radially or otherwise, or the roll is rotated, for example in clockwise direction, so that the uppermost layer will tear at the perforation line and form a flap (5), which will be retained, by adhesion, against the adhering element.
