    • An illumination device comprises a housing (5) with a plurality of compartments (3), each compartment comprising a respective light emission window (15), a light source (11), and a stack of crossed prismatic sheets (10). Light issued by the light source during operation is made to propagate through the prismatic sheets and subsequently through the light emission window. The orientation of the stack of sheets is different for each compartment, thus causing each compartment to issue a different beam of light. The light source of each compartment is separately switchable, thus enabling easy setting of the type of beam issued form the illumination device. Optionally a diffuser (17, 23) is provided at one side or at both sides of the stack of prismatic sheets to enhance the homogeneity of the issued light.

    • The invention relates to an illumination system (1) for illuminating display devices, comprising: a light emission window (2) for emitting light in the direction of a display device, a reflector (5) for reflecting light, at least a part of which reflector is arranged substantially parallel to and opposite to the light emission window, and a plurality of elongated light sources (6, 9) arranged between said light emission window and said reflector, wherein the surface of each light source is provided with coatings (11) that define multiple elongated light emitting apertures (12), which span each an angle x whose bisector (13) is directed towards the reflectors. The invention further relates to a display device comprising said illumination system.

    • The invention provides a collimator comprising a prismatic layer stack. The prismatic layer stack comprises a first prismatic layer comprising ID arranged first prisms, with first prism tops having first prism top angels, and first grooves, having first groove angles; and a second prismatic layer comprising ID arranged second prisms, with second prism tops having second prism top angels, and second grooves, having second groove angles. The first prismatic layer and the second prismatic layer are in a crossed configuration. Further, the first and second prism tops of the first and the second prismatic layers point in the same direction. The first and second prism top angels and the first and second groove angles are selected from the range of 120-160°.
