摘要： Laser lights emitted from a light source 30 are diffused in a direction parallel to main surfaces of a light guide plate 9 by a one-dimensional diffuser 5. The diffused laser lights are converted to parallel lights by a first cylindrical lens 6, and are then converged in a direction of the thickness of the light guide plate 9 by a second cylindrical lens 7. The converged laser lights are reflected 90 degrees twice by a mirror 8, and are guided to a side surface of the light guide plate 9.

摘要： A surface illumination apparatus is provided which includes a laser light source and a light guide plate upon which a laser beam emitted from the laser light source is incident through an end-surface portion and from which the laser beam is emitted through a main-surface portion on one side thereof. The laser beam is incident through an end-surface portion at an inclination angle to a main-surface portion on the other side which faces the one main-surface portion of the light guide plate, undergoes a change in the optical-path direction thereof by the other main-surface portion, is incident on the one main-surface portion and is emitted as a substantially parallel beam from the one main-surface portion.

摘要： An LCD backlight has a light source that emits a laser light, a lens, a mirror, a rotary polygon mirror, a scanning lens and a return mirror constituting a transforming optical system that transforms the laser light from the light source to a linear light. A light guiding plate allows the linear light to enter and emits two-dimensional light in the horizontal direction. An emission end face of the light source is disposed in a rear face side of the light guiding plate so that a surface normal line thereof is in the horizontal direction or is inclined downward from the horizontal direction. The lens, mirror and scanning lens are disposed in the rear face side of the light guiding plate, so that surface normal lines of the light transmission surface and light reflection surface thereof are all in the horizontal direction or are inclined downward from the horizontal direction.
