    • A controlling node for a cell in a cellular system, arranged to measure a performance indicator of the communication between the node and at least one user and to aggregate the measured performance indicator for at least one user over an amount of time. The performance indicator is measured as the amount of data bits successfully transferred as data blocks in uplink and/or downlink between the controlling node and the at least one user during said defined amount of time, divided by the number of smallest physical resources in the system in terms of time and frequency used during said defined amount of time. One or more predefined combinations of one or more data blocks and one or more said smallest physical resources in the system is/are excluded from the aggregated measurement.

    • The object of the present invention is to provide a solution wherein data packets can be transmitted in a mobile packet data communication system between a mobile station (500) and a base station system (510) over an air interface (520) with a short initial access time delay, without unnecessary consumption of system resources and the mobile station's battery resources. This is achieved by using a novel channel type called non-scheduled traffic channel for transmitting data packets between a mobile station and a base station system. The non-scheduled traffic channel is accessible to a selected number of the mobile stations residing in a cell. The non-scheduled traffic channel is used such that a data packet is transmitted from the mobile station (500) to the base station system (510) or from the base station system (510) to the mobile station (500) over the non-scheduled traffic channel without any connection being established between the mobile station and the base station system before the data packet is transmitted and without the non-scheduled traffic channel being scheduled for the transmission before the data packet is transmitted. An identifier would be appended to the data packet such that the mobile stations in the cell would know to which mobile station the packet is addressed, in case of downlink transmission, and such that the base station system would know from which mobile station the data packet was transmitted, in case of uplink transmission.

    • A method is provided for decoding data stored in a partial area of a coding pattern on a surface, based on a recorded image of the partial area. The coding pattern contains elements which each have at least two possible decoding values. The method identifies in the image a plurality of elements. The method further calculates, for each identified element, an associated value probability for each possible decoding value that the element has this decoding value. Additionally, the method performs the decoding of data based on the decoding values and the corresponding value probabilities. A device and a memory medium storing a computer program with instructions for performing such a data decoding technique are also provided.

    • Methods, apparatus, and systems for measuring, on a per-QoS-class basis, the average number of user devices active on the uplink of a wireless communication system are disclosed. In an exemplary method, a number of mobile terminals with buffered data for transmission to a base station is estimated based on received buffer status reports. An estimated quantity of active mobile terminals is calculated, based on the received buffer status reports and a number of mobile terminals for which a semi-persistent scheduling grant has been granted. In some embodiments, the estimated quantity of active mobile terminals is estimated on a per-traffic-class basis, in which case the technique includes calculating first and second estimated quantities, corresponding to mobile terminals having active data bearers for first and second traffic classes, respectively, based on the received buffer status reports and the number of mobile terminals for which a semi-persistent scheduling grant has been granted.

    • A telecom node (210, 310) such as a base station is configured to detect events. A low priority event may not be serious enough on its own to raise an alarm to a network management system (220, 420) managing the telecom node (210, 310). However, the low priority event can collectively have a serious impact on the network performance if the event occurs over multiple nodes (210, 310) of the network (200). When a low priority event occurs over multiple nodes (210, 310), the telecom node (210, 310) notifies the network management system (220, 420) of the event by raising an alarm so that the situation can be addressed. In a partitioned network installation, not all neighboring nodes (210, 310) are managed by a same network management system (220, 420). When the alarm is raised to the network management system (220, 420), other network management systems (220, 420) managing the neighboring nodes (210, 310) are notified of the alarm by the network management system (220, 420).
