    • A method and apparatus for ink jet printing enables a high grade image with the reduced ununiformity of colors to be inexpensively printed. A scan of a print head is executed to apply a reacting liquid to a print medium so that the number of reacting liquid dots impacting a unit area is reduced as the scan moves from a printing start-point of the reacting liquid to a printing end-point. Then, a scan of the print head is executed to apply the coloring inks to the area printed with the reacting liquid. Simultaneously, the reacting liquid is applied to an area which precedes by one band the area printed with coloring inks. Then, the coloring inks are applied. Simultaneously, the reacting liquid is applied to the area which precedes by one band the area printed with coloring inks. An image is formed by repeating the above steps.

    • A method for forming spacers according to the present invention is a method for forming the spacers on a substrate, comprising the steps of: supplying adhesive at a position for forming each of the spacers on the substrate by an inkjet system; dispersing beads, each bead having a diameter corresponding to the height of the spacer, so as to adhere the beads to adhesive; and removing the beads that are not adhered to the adhesive from the substrate. A manufacturing method for a color filter having spacers according to the present invention, the method comprises the steps of: forming a color filter by forming on a substrate at least a light-shielding layer having plural apertures and a colored layer having colored portions arranged in each of the apertures of the light-shielding layer; supplying adhesive made of a curable resin composition in regions overlapping the light-shielding layer on the color filter by an inkjet system; dispersing beads on the color filter so as to stick the beads to the adhesive; and removing the beads that are not adhered to the adhesive from the color filter. Furthermore, a liquid crystal element according the present invention comprises: a pair of substrates; and liquid crystal clamped between the pair of substrates, wherein one of the pair of substrates is a color filter having spacers made by the above-mentioned manufacturing method and the distance between the pair of substrates is maintained by the spacers.

    • Disclosed is an apparatus for automatically measuring the amount of ink discharged from an inkjet printhead. A predetermined amount of pure water is injected into a measurement bottle, the bottle is supplied via an insertion port to a rotary table for measurement purposes, and the rotary table is rotated by 90.degree. to bring the bottle to a point immediately underlying a nozzle of the inkjet printhead. Ink is then discharged into the bottle from the printhead under set measurement conditions. The rotary head is then rotated a further 90.degree. to bring the bottle to a point in front of a photometer. At this time the ink solution is stirred thoroughly and the absorbance thereof is measured by the photometer. When measurement is completed, the rotary table is rotated a further 90.degree. to discard the bottle from a discharge port. These steps are automated by computer control.
