    • A connector socket has a plug insertion opening that is as small as possible to prevent insertion of fingers or other object. The mating plug travels on a hinged arcuate path into the plug insertion opening. The plug insertion opening is displaced from a centerline of its contacts to provide clearance permitting the mating plug to enter, while maintaining a minimum opening size. A front surface of the connector socket surrounding the plug insertion opening is a grounded conductive plate. Thus, even if one succeeds in forcing a finger or other charged object through the plug insertion opening, static charges are discharges to the conductive plate, and therefore do not pose a threat of electrical damage to components accessible within the plug insertion opening.

    • A connector mold (4) of a connector socket (1) includes pairs of contact holding chambers (7U,7L) facing each other along a direction perpendicular to a length of the connector socket. Contact insertion openings in opposite sides of the pairs of contact holding chambers permit the insertion of contacts (8U,8L) from opposed sides into the contact holding chambers. The opposite-side installations of the contacts permits pre-installation final forming of the contacts, including an "L"-shaped external connection terminal (8b) for external connection of the connector to a circuit board before the contacts are inserted into the mold. Base attachment grooves (10U,10L) in the inner walls of the contact holding chambers guide the insertion of the contacts into their respective contact holding chambers, and fix the contacts in place after insertion. A shield plate (9) is used to prevent electrostatic fingertip charge from reaching the contacts.

    • The card connector can adequately detect the state in which an electronic device such as a memory card to be inserted and removed is fitted, and saves the footprint for mounting the card connector. With this card connector, a card detection switch detects a state in which a memory card is fitted in an accommodating part of a housing through an insertion slot. The card detection switch has movable terminals and fixed terminals, and the movable terminals each have a card contact part which is displaced by being pressed by the memory card to be inserted, and a movable contact part which is displaced in a same direction as a direction in which card contact part is displaced following displacement of the card contact part. The fixed terminals are each arranged in the housing to project in a direction to interest the direction in which the movable contact part is displaced, and is slid against by the movable contact part when the movable contact part is displaced.

    • A receptacle connector prevents a plug from being obliquely inserted with a simple configuration. Receptacle connector 100 has: a hollow rectangular shape shield case (120) which is made by machining a metal plate and which includes fitting slot 101; and a housing (110) which is covered by the shield case (120) and in which contacts (130) to be connected with terminal parts (230) of an inserted plug (200) are disposed. In the shield case (120), a projecting part (124) is formed extending along one side of the fitting slot (101) by denting an upper plate part (122), which defines the accommodating part (104) accommodating the plug (200), to project toward an accommodating region (104). An end surface (124a) of this projecting part (124) on the fitting slot (101) side is closer to the fitting slot (101) side than the contacts (130) and forms a plane orthogonal to the upper plate part (122).

    • An immobilizer device for a vehicle includes a key which has a transponder, an engine ECU, and an immobilizer ECU which receives a first identification information transmitted from the key and inputs the identification information to the engine ECU via a first identification information transmitting device. The immobilizer ECU includes a second identification information transmitting device which inputs second, different identification information to the engine ECU. The engine ECU includes a first and second identification information authentication devices which respectively authenticate the first identification information and the second identification information based on first and second comparison data set in the engine ECU. The engine ECU allows an engine to start when the first and second identification information are appropriately authenticated. The first identification information is based on random numbers generated by the engine ECU.
