    • A battery device housing a large number of secondary batteries, in which the batteries can be cooled efficiently as the effect of excessive vibrations or shock or changes in environmental conditions on the housed secondary batteries is suppressed and as sufficient air-tightness is maintained. The battery device includes a modular casing 13 having a battery housing section 45 in its inside and a large number of terminal openings 46, 47, an outer casing member 11 for housing the modular casing 13 in an accommodating space section 11a, and a large number of secondary batteries 12 housed in the battery housing section 45 so that terminal sections 12a, 12b are exposed to outside through terminal openings 46, 47. The secondary batteries 12 are connected in series with one another. The modular casing 13 is housed in the outer casing member 11 with a gap p between facing outer and inner peripheries with the interposition of mounting portions 54, 65. The modular casing 13 is provided with a suction unit 15 and an exhaust section 16 for supplying and exhausting cooling air to or from the battery housing section 45. The secondary batteries 12 are accommodated in the battery device so that both ends of the batteries are cemented with an adhesive 42 to the terminal openings 46, 47 and so that the outer peripheries of the batteries face the inner surface of the battery housing section 45 with a gap in-between.

    • A battery device in which a large number of secondary batteries are efficiently housed and cemented strongly so that malfunctioning secondary batteries found after assembling can be exchanged and so that unusual heat evolution can be detected reliably. To this end, a pair of modular casing halves 43, 44 having battery housing half sections 49, 64 and a large number of terminal openings 46, 47 communicating with the battery housing half sections are coupled to each other to constitute a modular casing 13 having a battery housing section 45. A large number of secondary batteries 12 are housed in the battery housing section so that both end terminals of the secondary batteries will be exposed to outside through the terminal openings. Each modular casing half is provided with bottomed adhesive charging openings 72 in register with the respective terminal openings and adhesive efflux opening parts 78 communicating with the terminal openings and with the adhesive charging openings. An adhesive 76 charged through the adhesive charging openings is affixed to the outer periphery of the secondary batteries through the adhesive efflux opening parts to cement the ends of the secondary batteries to the terminal openings.

    • A battery device having a large number of secondary cells in which the voltage of a large number of secondary batteries can be detected and controlled to facilitate the handling and to improve the reliability. The battery device is made up of a modular casing 13, a large number of secondary batteries 12 housed in the modular casing 13, plural cell control units 14 and an exterior casing 11 accommodating the modular casing 13. The modular casing 13 has an inner casing member 26 and an outer casing member 27 and has a large number of terminal openings 29, 42 opened in it. The cell control unit 14 has the functions of detecting and controlling the voltage of each battery module and each secondary battery and of inputting and outputting detection and control signals. The exterior casing 11 is provided with a positive electrode terminal 18, a negative electrode terminal 19 and a transmission/reception terminal 20 of the cell control unit 14.

    • A sealed battery including a safety valve made of a metal plate which can be deformed by the increase of the inner pressure of the battery, and current cutting-off means which is actuated by the deformation of the safety valve, wherein the safety valve has a safety valve projection provided at its center to project toward an electric power generating element of the battery, a disk having a central aperture in which the safety valve projection is inserted and gas apertures through which gas is passed is fixed between the safety valve and the electric power generating element, a thin metal plate to which one of the leads of the electric power generating element is connected is attached to the element side of the disk to close the central aperture, and the safety valve projection is welded to the thin metal plate through the central aperture. In another embodiment, instead of the thin metal plate, a disk made of metal is fixed between the safety valve and the electric power generating element and the safety valve projection is welded to the center of the disk.
