    • A lamp for a vehicle having a metallic light shielding shade that comprises a shade body serving as a light shielding section and a leg which extends rearward from the shade body in substantially a horizontal direction so that the light shielding section supported in a cantilever manner when the rear end of the leg is inserted and secured to a leg insertion hole formed in a reflector of the lamp, wherein the leg of the light shielding shade is obtained by laminating two plate-like extending portions that have expanded portions; and holding grooves are formed in the leg insertion hole. When the expanded portions are press-fitted into the holding grooves from the front side of the reflector, the leg is inserted in the leg insertion hole, and the rear end of the extending leg is bent so as to be on the rear surface of the reflector; as a result, the leg of the light shielding shade is securely held in the leg insertion hole of the reflector. The leg is formed by laminating two plate-like extending portions so as to have a high rigidity, realizes excellent light distributing characteristics, and prevents deflection of light distribution.

    • A shade for screening part of reflected light from a light source is rotated between a low beam and a high beam positions providing a different amount of screened light. The beam switching device comprises a tension coil spring for elastically biasing the shade toward the low beam position and a solenoid constructed to press against the shade against the elastic biasing force of the tension coil spring so that the shade rotates to reach the high beam position. The solenoid is constructed to simply press against the shade. The beam switching device can be assembled to a reflector unit only by disposing the solenoid and the tension coil spring at predetermined positions, respectively.

    • An automotive headlamp including a gear apparatus having a cylindrical gear shaft supporting wall extending from an opening edge of a shaft insertion hole formed in a supporting wall of a lamp housing, the gear shaft supporting wall being formed on an edge surface thereof with slits or protrusions, a gear shaft having a gear part which is provided at a surface thereof facing the edge surface of the gear shaft supporting wall with projections or slits which engage with the slits or projections of the gear shaft supporting wall, the gear shaft further including an engagement groove formed on an outer peripheral surface of a portion in the vicinity of the other end thereof, and a fastener engaging with the engagement groove for holding the gear shaft in position when it is inserted into the gear shaft supporting wall and the shaft insertion hole. The fastener is provided with resilient pieces extending outward from an outer peripheral edge thereof. The resilient pieces incline toward the supporting wall side and resiliently abut against the supporting wall. During operation, the resilient pieces are deformed to thereby disengage the protrusions or slits of the gear shaft from the slits or protrusions of the gear shaft supporting wall.
