    • A digital camera may include a flash unit configured to emit light to illuminate a subject using a preliminary light emission operation followed by a main light emission operation, an image sensor having a pixel array arranged along a plurality of lines, and a digital signal processor. The image sensor may be configured to convert an image of the subject into an electrical signal by reading an image frame corresponding to one screen using the pixel array during the preliminary light emission operation and reading another image frame corresponding to one screen during the main light emission operation. The digital signal processor may be configured to control the light emitting operation of the flash unit to maintain the preliminary light emission from a start to an end of the reading of one image frame.

    • Provided are a method and apparatus for determining a target compression rate for a file, which may be calculated using a predetermined algorithm based on a target file size. There is provided a method for compressing a file, the method including using a processor to perform at least the steps of compressing a target file at an initial compression rate and determining a size of the compressed target file; comparing the size of the target file compressed at the initial compression rate to sizes of a first file and a second file compressed at the initial compression rate; based on the comparisons and a target size for the target file, calculating a target compression rate; and compressing the target file using the target compression rate.

    • An image processing method and apparatus may effectively reduce noise in an image which represents an object photographed by a photographing apparatus. The method may include extracting a first low-frequency component and a first high-frequency component from first image data, and applying a noise reduction filter to the first low-frequency component and to the first high-frequency component to obtain a second low-frequency component and a second high-frequency component, respectively. The method may also include obtaining edge data from the second low-frequency component, and amplifying a portion of the second high-frequency component that corresponds to the edge data to obtain a third high-frequency component. The method may further include combining the second low-frequency component with the third high-frequency component to obtain second image data, and controlling the second image data representing the photographed object to be output to at least one of a storage medium and a display unit.
