摘要： A squeezable container for dispensing a product out the open end of the container, including a collapsible inner layer and a resilient outer layer. The container is an integral body formed by expansion from a multi-layer preform, and preferably consists of one or more layers of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) separated by an adjacent boundary layer, such as a barrier layer of ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH). A one-way check valve is provided at the outer layer to restrict the flow of air into a chamber which is formed between the inner and outer layers as the inner layer collapses, and preferably a second check valve is provided in the open dispensing end of the container to prevent air from being drawn into the container when the outer layer is released. The container is economical to manufacture, light in weight, easy to handle, can be made of recycled materials, and is "product efficient" in that substantially all of the product can be dispensed from the container during use.

摘要： A plastic preform from which a plastic container is blow molded. The preform replaces a three layer preform by providing a preform which is of a five layer construction in the base forming portion thereof and wherein a secondary material which forms the core layer of the three layer preform construction is divided into an inner intermediate layer and an outer intermediate layer by a third injection of material. The third injected material is preferably the same material as the primary material which is first injected. This results in the reduction of the cost of the preform and also provides remaining in the injection nozzle a quantity of the last injected material which is the same as the first injected material for the following preform in the same preform injection mold cavity.

摘要： It has been found that when layered preforms are being injection molded utilizing at least two materials, it is possible to maintain the same horizontal and vertical pitch of adjacent cavities as is possible when each mold cavity is being filled with a single material. Most particularly, it has been found that when the percentage of the material to be injected into a mold cavity is relatively high, it is possible to utilize a single metering pot for four adjacent mold cavities. On the other hand, if one of the materials to be injected into a mold cavity constitutes a relatively low percentage of the volume of a mold cavity, it has been found that a small metering pot must be provided for each of the cavities of the four cavity mold. Most particularly, with this combination, it is possible to maintain the pitch of the single material mold and thereby maintain the small size of existing injection systems as opposed to an increase in the pitch of the mold cavities which would increase the size of the mold structure.

摘要： A substantially transparent package or preform made of a polymer composition including an aliphatic polyketone as an oxygen scavenger having the formula ##STR1## where n is the number of repeating units and R is hydrogen, an organic side chain, or a silicon side chain. The aliphatic polyketone may be advantageously combined with other thermoplastic polymers to provide the desired injection molding and stretch blow molding characteristics for making substantially amorphous injection molded preforms and substantially transparent biaxially oriented polyester containers. A multilayer container package may be provided having a core layer of the oxygen scavenging composition, and inner and outer layers of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The container may further include layers of a high-oxygen barrier polymer such as ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH). When filled with a liquid product including water, the water vapor from the product may permeate the inner and core layers to facilitate removal and consumption of entrapped oxygen by the core scavenging layer. The aliphatic polyketone provides a highly reactive oxygen scavenger which is made from low-cost monomers and which remains colorless during processing.

摘要： A multilayer plastic container for use with either a positive or negative pressure dispensing system, the container having an integral body with an inner layer which readily separates from an outer layer and collapses to dispense a product from the container. The container is formed by blow-molding a multilayer preform, and a bottom aperture is formed in the container for injecting air to separate the inner layer from the outer layer. Preferably, the inner layer is predelaminated during manufacture to facilitate its later separation during use. In the case of vacuum dispening, air inlet vent holes are preferably formed at the points of maximum deformation to prevent collapse of the outer layer.

摘要： A multilayer plastic container having enhanced strength for high temperature and pressure applications such as the pasteurization of carbonated juice drinks. The container is commercially cost-effective in comparison to prior art pasteurizable glass containers, and provides all of the advantages of plastic over glass, i.e., lightweight, shatter-resistant, etc. In a particular embodiment, the multilayer container includes inner and outer layers of a relatively high IV virgin PET, e.g., 0.85-0.90 dl/g, and a core layer of post-consumer PET having a substantially lower IV. The container has a relatively tall and slender profile, with high orientation levels in the panel and shoulder, and an oriented thick-walled base with feet. The base preferably has a high profile and angled foot pads which are allowed to move outwardly under creep. According to a method of making a multilayer preform for such container, an enhanced injection rate and mold pressure are utilized to enhance interlayer bonding and prevent separation of the layers in spite of their substantial differences in IV.

The PEN layer may be a homopolymer, copolymer, or blend of PEN. In a first high-PEN embodiment, the exterior layer contains on the order of 80-100% PEN and 0-20% PET by total weight of the layer, and a core layer of a non-strain hardenable polyester such as PETG. In a second low-PEN embodiment, the exterior layer includes a strain hardenable low-PEN copolymer or blend including on the order of 1-20% PEN and 80-99% PET, and the core layer is a strain-hardenable polyester such as a low-copolymer PET. In a third mid-range PEN embodiment, the exterior wall includes a substantially amorphous PEN copolymer or blend containing on the order of 20-80% PEN and 80-20% of another polyester such as PET, and a strain-hardened core layer of polyester such as a low-copolymer PET. To further enhance the oxygen barrier and thermal stability properties, the core layer may further include a copolymer or blend of PEN. Alternatively, PEN may be provided in an interior layer only.
