    • A printed image can be redundantly encoded by printing a visible image using a colorant with a luminance that contrasts with that of the output sheet and printing a redundant image using a colorant with a luminance that varies only slightly from that of the output sheet. Accordingly, the visible image can be easily read by a user while the redundant image is substantially invisible to the human eye at normal reading distances, yet capable of being captured by a conventional digital scanner. In one aspect, redundantly encoded images may be printed on a white background, with visible images printed in black text and redundant images printed in blue in content regions of the visible image and in yellow in its background regions.

    • What is disclosed is a system and method for specifying a custom document as a multi-criteria constraint optimization problem, and a method to automatically create the specified document using existing constraint optimization solving algorithms. The present method specifies the document, its content components, its layout requirements, and its desired aesthetic criteria are expressed as elements of a constraint optimization problem which when solved, results in an automated document layout for the set of content components that satisfies not only certain primitive content and layout constraints, but which also advantageously fulfills desired design properties and which provides a way to ensure that the generated document is well designed. The method for automatic document layout comprises the steps of determining a set of variables that can be adjusted to achieve a satisfactory layout; expressing said satisfactory layout as a set of constraints on said determined set of variables wherein at least one of said set of constraints is expressed as being optimizable; and solving said constraints to find a layout which solves for the variables over the constraints. The system for automatic document layout on multi-function office equipment comprises means for document layout constraint acquisition; means for document layout variable specification which specifies a set of variables that can be adjusted to achieve a satisfactory layout; means for relationship-constraint to optimization-constraint conversion which expresses said satisfactory layout as a set of constraints on said set of variables wherein at least one of said set of constraints is expressed as being optimizable; and means for constraint optimization for solving said constraints to find a layout which solves for the variables over said constraints.

    • There is disclosed a system and method of processing a document corresponding with a printable format in a print path. A browser, communicating with a user interface (having a display) and a network, is used to access a services interface, the services interface including at least one selectable service available by way of the network. A browser activating system, communicating with the browser and a print driver, is used to open the browser to display the at least one selectable service of the services interface on the user interface display. Responsive to selecting the at least one selectable service from the displayed services interface, the at least one selectable service is applied to the document corresponding with the printable format.

    • There is disclosed a system and method of processing a document converted, by a print driver, from a first format to a second format. The system includes a workstation with a browser communicating with both a user interface (having a display) and a network. The browser is used to access a services interface, the services interface including at least one selectable service available by way of the network. The browser, responsive to the print driver converting the document in the first format into the document in the second format, is opened to display the at least one selectable service of the services interface on the user interface display. Responsive to selecting the at least one selectable service from the displayed services interface, the at least one selectable service is applied to the document corresponding in the second format.

    • A first digital image is combined with a transformed first digital image to authenticate and reconstruct the first digital image. When viewed in the standard manner, the combined image appears to be the first digital image. The transformed first digital image cannot be seen. When the bits within each pixel of the combined image are reversed, i.e. the least significant bit (LSB) is exchanged with the most significant bit (MSB), and the resultant image is viewed, then the transformed first digital image is seen. In this way, the transformed first digital image can be hidden inside the noise bits of the first digital image. The method is applied to color pixels by treating each color byte independently. The transformed first digital image can be encrypted before combining with the first digital image. The transformed first digital image can be inversely transformed back to the first digital image for authentication and reconstruction.
