    • A method for paging user equipments (UEs) receiving a second service in a mobile communication system providing a first service and the second service. A serving General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) support node (SGSN), determines an identifier indicating the second service and a coefficient related to paging occasions for transmitting a paging instance indicating presence/absence of paging information related to the second service in response to a request for the second service from UEs, and transmits the determined identifier and coefficient to a radio network controller (RNC). The RNC transmits the identifier and the coefficient to the UEs, determines the paging occasions and transmission times of the paging instance in each of the paging occasions by using the identifier and the coefficient, and transmits the paging instances over a first channel at the transmission times of the paging instances for each of the paging occasions so that the UEs recognize presence/absence of the paging information.

    • Disclosed is a method for resuming header decompression by receiving multimedia broadcast/multicast service (MBMS) packet data having compressed headers in a mobile communication system providing the MBMS. The method includes the steps of detecting a moving of user equipment (UE) receiving the MBMS into a new cell from an old cell, copying and storing old header decompression context information used in the old cell, initializing a dynamic part to decompress headers of packet data for the MBMS and waiting for an IR-DYN packet until the IR-DYN packet has been received in the UE, in order to update the old header decompression information, creating a new header decompression context through updating the old header decompression information by using the IR-DYN packet when the IR-DYN packet has been received in the UE, and decompressing the headers of the packet data for the MBMS transmitted from the new cell by using the new header decompression context.

    • An apparatus and method for selectively combining broadcast data packets from a plurality of cells in a user equipment (UE). A selective combiner stores a received broadcast data packet in a buffer if a sequence number of the broadcast data packet received from the plurality of cells does not fall within a reception window, and stores the received broadcast data packet in the buffer if a sequence number of the received broadcast data packet falls within the reception window but has not been stored in the buffer. The selective combiner updates the reception window if a sequence number of the received broadcast data packet does not fall within the reception window, and discards the received broadcast data packet if a sequence number of the received broadcast data packet falls within the reception window but has been stored in the buffer.

    • A method and apparatus for providing an MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service) service to user equipments (UEs) that desire to receive the MBMS service, in a code division multiple access (CDMA) mobile communication system including a plurality of radio network controllers (RNCs), a plurality of SGSNs (Serving GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) Supporting Nodes) connected to each of the RNCs, and a plurality of the UEs wirelessly connectable to the RNCs, and providing the MBMS service to the UEs. The UEs request a desired MBMS service, and receive an MBMS service provided in response to the request. The RNCs transmit data related to the MBSM service to UEs wirelessly connected to thereto among UEs that requested the service. The SGSNs control a procedure related to the MBMS service for the UEs that requested the service. A default SGSN is individually designated for the MBMS service, and the default SGSN transmits MBMS data for the given MBMS service to UEs that requested the given MBMS service, through the RNCs.
