    • A multichannel display data generating apparatus for generating data for displaying AV data on a multiscreen has a plurality of screens for displaying AV data of a plurality of channels, said apparatus comprising: input means for inputting AV data of a plurality of channels being transferred using a transport packet of a transport stream; a smaller number of PCR extracting means for extracting in a time-sharing mode the PCR of a plurality of channels displayed on said plurality of screens than the number of said plurality of screens; the same number of PLL means for establishing PLL synchronization by using said extracted PCR as the number of said plurality of screens; the same number of STC (system time clock) counter means for counting the times of the channels displayed on said plurality of screens by using the oscillation frequency of said PLL means as the number of said plurality of screens; AV decoding means for AV-decoding the AV data of the channels displayed on said multiscreen in AV synchronization with said STC counter means; and output means for outputting said AV-decoded AV data; and wherein said output AV data is displayed on said multiscreen.

The additional information synthetic position deciding part 210 selects from a ROM 211 a target value for reading the additional information applicable to the notified standard, and outputs the target value to an additional information reading parts 207. When the standard of the broadcast wave is changed, target values corresponding to the changes are responsively selected from the ROM 212 and the ROM 211.

    • A video display unit according to the present invention is provided with a multipurpose arithmetic unit for generating display data by carrying out at least one operation within one period of the pixel clock and an instruction sequencer for describing as instructions the display data and the operational contents to be inputted to this, and by implementing the described instructions while synchronizing to the display clock, picture up/down scaling processes as well as a blending process with the OSD are realized. Thereby, it is not necessary to provide a dedicated circuit for each of required specifications such as in a conventional unit, and by rewriting instructions within the instruction sequencer, it is possible to cope with a plurality of display specifications.
