    • A suction throttle valve of a variable displacement compressor having a compressor housing includes a suction chamber, a crank chamber, an inlet, a suction passage, a valve body, a valve housing, an urging member, a valve chamber, and a communication hole. The valve body is provided for adjusting an opening area of the suction passage and movably arranged in the suction passage. The urging member urges the valve body in the direction that decreases the opening area of the suction passage. The communication hole is provided for connecting the suction chamber to the valve housing. An opening area of the communication hole is variable in accordance with the movement of the valve body. Accordingly, the opening area of the communication hole becomes maximum during the maximum displacement operation of the compressor and becomes reduced during the intermediate displacement operation of the compressor.

    • A discharge valve mechanism in a compressor for compressing refrigerant gas includes a valve plate and a discharge valve plate. The valve plate forms a discharge port into which the compressed refrigerant gas is discharged. The discharge valve plate is located between the valve plate and a rear housing and includes a support portion, a connecting portion and a discharge valve. The support portion is sandwiched between the valve plate and the end surface of the rear housing. The connecting portion is bendably cantilevered from the support portion. The connecting portion extends to an opposite side of the discharge port so as to bypass the discharge port from the support portion. The connecting portion has a free end portion. The discharge valve extends from the free end portion to the discharge port toward the support portion for opening and closing the discharge port.

    • A suction throttle valve of a compressor has a compressor housing having a suction chamber and a crank chamber. The suction throttle valve includes a suction passage formed in the housing, a suction port provided at an inlet of the suction passage, a valve body movably arranged in the suction passage for adjusting opening of the suction passage, an urging member for urging the valve body toward the suction port, and a valve chamber provided in the suction passage. Refrigerant is drawn into the suction passage through the suction port and then received in the suction chamber. A first communication hole is formed through the housing, through which the valve chamber and the suction chamber are in constant communication with each other. A second communication hole is formed through the housing, through which the valve chamber and the crank chamber are in constant communication with each other.
