    • In a color cathode ray tube, a panel having a single faceplate is coupled to a plurality of necks through a plurality of funnels, respectively. A plurality of electron gun assemblies are received in necks and a plurality of deflection units are mounted around the funnels, respectively. A screen is formed on an inner surface of faceplate and has a plurality of continuous segment regions each of which is scanned with the electron beams emitted from the corresponding electron gun assembly and deflected by the corresponding deflection unit. A shadow mask is so supported in the panel as to face the faceplate. The electron gun assemblies adjacent each other so arranged as to have a relative distance GS between the central axis thereof:GS=m.multidot.SG[(n-1)Ph+d]/Phwhere SG is a relative distance on the deflection plane, between the electron beams emitted from each of said electron gun assembly, d is a distance between predetermined effective apertures of the shadow mask through which the predetermined electron beams pass, the predetermined electron beams landing on endmost adjacent effective phosphor elements in each two adjacent ones of said segment regions, and m and n are integers, respectively.

    • A color cathode ray tube with a shadow mask has a screen partitioned into a plurality of elemental screen areas and electron guns positioned and corresponding to the respecting elemental screen areas, the electron guns generating electron beams to scan the screen. The shadow mask includes effective regions having a number of apertures passed through by the electron beams to impinge on the screen and a non-effective region adjacent to the effective regions. Phosphors as a signal source are deposited on the non-effective regions or the boundaries between the elemental screen areas to emit a light signal by electron beam excitation. A photo-electric transducer is provided facing the shadow mask and to detect the light signal for feed back to a deflection system to control the electron beam deflection.

    • The invention is directed to a picture tube comprising an electron gun installed within an evacuated envelope which receives various potentials supplied from a potential source. The electron gun comprises a cathode for generating an electron beam and a plurality of successively arranged electrodes for focusing and accelerating the electron beam. One or more supporting rod secures the electrodes. Each of the supporting rods comprises an insulator portion and a glass resistance portion. The glass resistance portion acts as a solid bulk resistor and secures in direct connection with at least one electrode of the electron gun. Consequently, potentials from the potential source are applied to certain electrodes through the glass resistance body. In a further embodiment the entire supporting rod consists of a homogeneous glass resistance body.

    • An electron gun for producing and directing at least one electron beam along a beam path comprises a beam forming section and a main lens section for focusing the electron beam. The main lens section includes first and second electrodes arranged along the beam path and having an aperture through which the electron beam is passed, and at least one auxiliary electrode which is located between the first and second electrodes, the auxiliary electrode having an aperture through which the electron beam is passed. The aperture of the auxiliary electrode is greater than each of the apertures of the first and second electrodes. Different voltages are applied to the first and second electrodes, and the auxiliary electrode is supplied with a middle voltage intermediate between the two voltages applied to the first and second electrodes.
