摘要： A method and apparatus for enhancing the performance of speech recognition by adaptively changing a process of determining the final, recognized word depending on a user's selection in a list of alternative words represented by a result of speech recognition. A speech recognition method comprising: inputting speech uttered by a user; recognizing the input speech and creating a predetermined number of alternative words to be recognized in the order of similarity; and displaying a list of alternative words arranged in a predetermined order and determining an alternative word that a cursor currently indicates as the final, recognized word if a user's selection from the list of alternative words has not been changed within a predetermined standby time.

The initiating of the dialogue may be delayed based upon an operational state of the mobile device, and the delaying may be overridden based upon an urgency of the dialogue.

The apparatus identifies a gesture corresponding to the tracking information by retrieving the gesture from a storage unit and executes an operation corresponding to the gesture.

The method includes: recognizing a grip posture of a user who uses the mobile terminal; detecting a function corresponding to the recognized grip posture; and performing the detected function. Accordingly, by considering user's grip postures formed when performing the functions of a mobile terminal such as a mobile phone, specific functions are respectively matched to a plurality of grip postures, a grip posture of a user who is holding the mobile terminal is recognized, and a function corresponding to the recognized grip posture is automatically performed without any operation such as an additional key input operation. Therefore, a complex input unit or input method is not required even when diverse functions are provided by the mobile terminal, and the user can easily and conveniently use the mobile terminal.
