    • A self-dispersible bipyridine-based metal complex includes a bipyridine-based ligand and a metal, and an ink composition including the metal complex. The bipyridine-based metal complex may be self-dispersed without requiring a dispersing agent and may be used as a colorant per se. Furthermore, the metal complex, when binding with a common colorant, may produce various colors and exhibit enhanced durability including light resistance. In addition, the metal complex includes a hydrophilic group-containing ligand coordinating with the metal, in addition to the bipyridine-based ligand, and thus, has a bulky structure. Therefore, dispersion stability is enhanced by a self-dispersion system based on a steric hindrance due to the bulky structure of the metal complex and an electrostatic repulsive force between the charged metal and the hydrophilic group-containing ligand, thus enhancing a long-term storage stability.

    • An ink composition includes a self-dispersible coloring agent that includes an ionic group and a non-ionic linear or cyclic ester or amide moiety on a surface of the coloring agent at a mole ratio of about 1:10 to about 10:1, an organic solvent, and water. The coloring agent has a modified surface, so that stability of the ink can be increased due to an interaction between the coloring agent and the organic solvent, the particle size of the coloring agent can be kept uniform, an adhering force with respect to a substrate is increased to minimize bleeding between colors of a printed image, waterfastness and rubfastness in dry and wet conditions are increased to obtain an excellent colorfastness, and resulting in a high quality printed image and an excellent storage stability.

    • An ink composition includes a colorant, a solvent, and an amide compound. Due to the use of the amide compound, the ink composition has effective storage stability and wetness at nozzles and has a low mobility of a colorant due to interaction between the colorant and the amide compound and a high adhesion to paper, thus minimizing bleeding between colors of printed images. In addition, the ink composition has effective color fastness, such as water fastness and dry and wet rubfastness of printed images, on paper, thus providing improved quality and durability of printed images. Further, the ink composition provides improved long-term storage stability. Thus, the ink composition may be used in various applications, such as inks for inkjet printers or printing, coatings, textile printing, making papers, cosmetics, ceramics, and the like.
