A liquid crystal display (LCD) may include a plurality of modules including a circuit board, a plurality of light emitting diode (LED) light sources arranged on the circuit board for emitting light, and a light guide plate having a light incidence part including an incident surface for receiving light emitted from the LED light source and a light emission part for emitting the light. The LCD may further include a frame having the plurality of the modules provided thereon, and at least one driving unit on one surface of the frame, wherein a connection hole is formed in the frame to connect the circuit board to the at least one driving unit.

In situations where there is a substantial variation in the brightness (luminance) of regions being displayed on the liquid crystal display device, the present invention can improve the visibility of boundaries due to differences in luminance in images displayed within the regions of the backlight unit emitting light at different levels of luminance as a result.
