摘要： A method of the present invention for producing a polarizing plate including a polarizer and a transparent protective film provided on one side of the polarizer with an adhesive layer interposed therebetween, include the steps of: (A) irradiating at least one side of a polarizer with vacuum ultraviolet rays to treat a surface of the polarizer; (B) bonding a first transparent protective film to the side of the polarizer, which has been subjected to the surface treatment step (A), with a first adhesive layer interposed therebetween to produce a temporary polarizing plate; and (C) peeling off the first transparent protective film and a surface layer of the polarizer, which has been subjected to the surface treatment, from the temporary polarizing plate. A thin polarizing plate in which shrinkage-induced bending is reduced may be obtained by the method.

The optical film laminate with predefined slit lines comprises an optically functional film having an adhesive layer which is subjected to a preliminary inspection, and a carrier film releasably laminated to the adhesive layer. Defect-free normal sheets and defective or defect-containing sheets having predefined length corresponding to the dimension of the liquid-crystal panel are formed on the carrier film by sequentially forming slit lines along the transverse direction with respect to the lengthwise direction of the optical film laminate.

摘要： A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display element is provided which simultaneously achieves the object of cutting an optical film without causing degradation in appearance and the object of preventing the film from being broken in a continuous bonding process, and includes: providing a long sheet material including a laminate of an optical film containing a polarizer, a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, and a carrier film temporarily bonded to the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer; cutting the long sheet material at predetermined intervals, while maintaining the continuity of the carrier film; peeling off the carrier film by a tensile force; and continuously bonding the resulting optical film pieces to liquid crystal panels, respectively, through the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer exposed by the peeling off, while feeding the resulting optical film pieces, wherein the cutting is performed to such a depth as to substantially reach the carrier film, and the carrier film is cut to a depth less than half of the thickness of the carrier film at least both end portions in the width direction of the carrier film.

摘要： An objective of the present invention is to alleviate streaky display unevenness that occurs in liquid crystal display elements when feeding optical function film from a continuous roll having score lines in the width direction thereof and bonding the optical function film on a liquid crystal panel. A continuous roll comprises an optical film laminate (15) that is in the form of a continuous web wound into a roll and comprises at least an optical function film (10) and a carrier film (13) releasably placed on the optical function film (10). The optical function film (10) is divided into a plurality of cut pieces by score lines (16) formed along a widthwise direction of the optical film laminate (15). It is possible to resolve the problem by making the bending rigidity per unit longitudinal length of the optical function film fall within a specific range.

摘要： A modified polymer which can serve as a raw material of novel reverse dispersion retardation films is provided, the modified polymer having no need to select a plurality of monomers or polymers in order to realize a reverse dispersion and having no problems concerning glass transition temperature or the like in drawing treatment. A polymer having a polyol skeleton as its main chain is caused to react with a compound for modification such as an aromatic carboxylic acid hydride. Through this reaction, a modified polymer in which a chemical group such as an aromatic carbonyl group is bonded to an oxygen atom in a side chain of the polyol skeleton is prepared. For example, polyvinyl alcohols and benzoyl chloride can be used as the polymer and the compound for modification, respectively. The chemical group may be a benzoyl group. When this modified polymer is formed into a film and then subjected to drawing treatment, a retardation film which exhibits a reverse wavelength dispersion characteristic can be obtained.
