In one embodiment, the advance content alerts are provided to a mobile device, such as a mobile telephone, of an associated user. More specifically, a user registers his or her mobile device with a media player and configures the types of content for which the user would like to receive advance content alerts. Thereafter, during playback of a media item, the media player identifies upcoming content for which the user desires an advance content alert.
