    • A system is provided for expanding a tubular element extending into a wellbore formed in an earth formation. The system includes an expander arranged to expand the tubular element by virtue of axial movement of the expander through the tubular element, an activating system for inducing the expander to move through the tubular element, the activating system including at least one activating tool, and a control system for controlling the activating system, including a remote control unit and for each activating tool a respective controller. The remote control unit is arranged to transmit an acoustic signal to an acoustic conductor selected from the tubular element and another elongate member extending into the borehole, each controller being arranged to receive the acoustic signal from the acoustic conductor and to control the corresponding activating tool upon receipt of the acoustic signal.

    • A method of installing a tubular assembly in a wellbore formed in an earth formation is disclosed whereby the tubular assembly includes a plurality of expandable tubular elements. The method comprises installing a first tubular element in the wellbore, and installing a second tubular element in the wellbore in a manner that an end part of the second tubular element extends into an end part of the first tubular element thereby forming an overlap portion of the tubular assembly, said overlap portion being positioned in the wellbore such that a radially deformable body is arranged around the overlap portion. The end part of the second tubular element is radially expanded against the end part of the first tubular element in a manner that the end part of the first tubular element becomes radially expanded and said deformable body becomes radially deformed.

    • A radially-expandable tubular connection comprises a radially-expandable pin member and a radially-expandable box member. The pin member has an external thread, and a non-threaded external seal surface. The box member has an internal thread for threadably engaging the external thread, and a non-threaded internal seal surface carried by an elongated box nose for engaging the external seal surface. The external and internal threads may be one of square threads, tapered threads, dovetail-shaped threads, and a combination thereof. The elongated box nose has a length, Ln, defined according to the equation L n ≤ 1 2 ⁢ OD b · T n , where ODb= outside diameter of the box member, and Tn= nominal thickness of the box nose. Accordingly, radial expansion of the tubular connection when the external thread of the pin member is threadably engaged within the internal thread of the box member produces deformation of the elongated box nose that urges at least a portion of the internal seal surface into contact with the external seal surface.

        • A radially-expandable tubular connection comprises a radially-expandable box member and a radially expandable pin member.         • The invention includes tubular connections that include a box member having an internal thread, an outer sleeve disposed about the box member and a bonding layer bonding the outer sleeve to the box member. This connection is particularly useful to radially-expandable tubular connections used in the oil and gas exploration industry and is useful for preventing a crack to propagate through the protective sleeve into the box member, especially when the tubular connection is undergoing radial expansion. The bonding material may include an adhesive, a retaining compound, an anaerobic cure adhesive, solder, brazing metal, weld material or combinations thereof. To provide a bonding layer that blunts or arrests crack propagation before a crack reaches the box member, the bonding layer has a bonding strength that is less than a threshold crack-propagating bonding strength, which is about one-fifth of the cohesive strength of the box member.
