    • A release liner for business form and label constructions comprises a substrate of carbonizing bond paper having a weight of between about 35-80 grams per square meter. A radiation (e.g. U.V.) curable silicone polymer blend is coated on the first face of the substrate with a coating weight of between about 0.8-2.3 grams per square meter. The silicone polymer blend comprises a large part base silicone polymer and optionally up to 40% of tight release additive, about 1 to 5% photoinitiator, and possibly substantially inert ingredients. A paper face of the form or label having a weight of between about 65-99 grams per square meter has a hot melt permanent or removable pressure sensitive adhesive on one of its faces, either applied directly or transferred to it if coated on the silicone, the adhesive in contact with the release liner. The form or label is substantially curl free after running through a laser printer.

    • An intermediate for making repositional or removable adhesive backed labels is provided which facilitate the construction of labels that may be readily dispensed with automatic equipment, and/or readily passed through printers. A first paper layer has permanent adhesive on a first face and the repositional or removable (preferably repositional) adhesive on a second face, the repositional adhesive also in contact with a first face of a liner material, with a second face of a liner material having a silicone coating. The liner material first face has a non-highly calendered texture, uncoated with adhesive release material so that the repositional or removable adhesive adheres well to the liner material first face, although the repositional adhesive has greater affinity for the first paper layer second face than the liner material first face. The intermediate may be placed in a spiral roll configuration, and then used to make a label precursor by bringing a second paper layer (e.g. about 12 lb. bond paper) into contact with the permanent adhesive layer. Labels are die cut out of the label precursor through the second paper layer so that when the label is removed from the label configuration it has a top face which is a face of the second paper layer and the repositional adhesive defines a bottom face thereof, or the label may be a patch in a much larger business form.

    • A transfer tape for making an integral label having dual-release liners and a carbonless coating on a face of the first liner. The tape also has a first silicone coating on a second face of the first liner and a pressure-sensitive adhesive on the first silicone coating. The second release liner is also provided with a silicone coating having a different affinity for the adhesive than does the first silicone coating. The transfer tape may be in a roll with the adhesive engaging the second silicone coating. The first silicone coating may be a differential coating and applied at a weight of about 3-10 grams per square meter. The adhesive may be a hot melt or acrylic adhesive. A business form may be constructed of a face stock and a patch of the transfer tape, the transfer tape pressure sensitive adhesive engaging the face stock. The labels may be die cut out of the business form. A CB coating is provided on the first face of the first liner and the transfer tape patch is applied to the face stock so as to overlie a CF coating on a second substrate stock.

    • A transfer tape having a self-imaging liner includes a first polyethylene coating or film layer on a first face of the self-imaging liner with a first silicone coating over the first polyethylene coating or film layer and a pressure sensitive adhesive on the first silicone coating. A release sheet is provided between the second face of the self-contained carbonless sheet and is covered with a second sprayed on polyethylene coating, or film layer, in turn covered by a second silicone coating. The transfer tape may be in a roll configuration with the adhesive engaging the second silicone coating. The first silicone coating may be a differential coating and applied at a weight of about 3-10 grams per square meter. The adhesive may be a hot melt adhesive or adhesive from a pre-wound tape. A business form may be constructed of a face stock and the transfer tape, the transfer tape pressure sensitive adhesive engaging the face stock, and labels may be die cut out of the business form. A CB coating may also be provided on the second silicone coating, to overlie a CF coating. The method of making transfer tape of the invention is simple yet effective.

    • Business forms having labels integral with the sheets there of (rather than riding piggyback thereon) are produced by applying a strip of transfer tape to only a portion of the second face of a sheet, with the adhesive of the transfer tape contacting the sheet, so that sheet material surrounds the transfer tape strip completely. Then a label is die cut from the first face of the sheet, preferably after the transfer tape is applied, within the area of the sheet overlying the transfer tape strip, without cutting the transfer tape backing. Indicia is at some point printed on the first face of the sheet. The label may be readily removed, with the adhesive from the transfer tape sticking to the label while the backing of the transfer tape remains in place. The strip of transfer tape is cut from a web, and then is transported with the adhesive face outward by a vacuum cylinder, until it moves into contact with a moving web. The web is ultimately formed into individual or continuous business forms, which may be multi-ply.

    • A point of purchase label construction for being associated with a displayed item for purchase. The label construction includes a label face stock, an opaque liner ply, the first face of the liner ply having an adhesive release coating portion and a release coating free portion. A line of weakness is disposed in the liner ply separating it into a first portion having the release coating for being readily removed to expose adhesive on a portion of the face stock, and a second release coating free portion. That exposed adhesive is pressed into contact with a surface of a point of purchase display so that the point of purchase indicia is readily visible. The second portion of the liner ply may have point of purchase indicia so that it can be bent to define a point of purchase flag.
