    • A thread rolling attachment (50) is adapted to be mounted on a machine tool and to be selectively moved in an axially direction relative to a workpiece (W) having a cylindrical surface upon which a thread is to be rolled. The improvement broadly includes a center plate (62) having three circularly-spaced detents (82); a front plate (66) having a central portion (70) arranged in axially-spaced relation to the center plate and having three circularly-spaced lugs (71) extending toward the center plate such that their distal end faces are adapted to engage and bear against a center plate surface (81); a recess (73) extending into each lug from such distal surface, each recess adapted to receive a respective one of the detents for angularly orienting the center and front plates relative to one another; three eccentric roll pins (63) having their opposite marginal end portions journalled on the center and front plates, and spaced equally from one another about an imaginary circle; a thread roll (65) rotatably mounted on each eccentric roll pin; and a plurality of fasteners (68) operatively arranged to selectively hold the center and front plates together; whereby, when the thread rolling attachment is assembled, the front plate will have improved rigidity and will be less susceptible to deformation.

    • An improved knurling device (20) includes a body (21) having an axis of elongation (x-x), and has a first part (22) and a second part (23). The body first part has axially-spaced front and center plates (24, 25, respectively). The body second part is mounted on the center plate, and is selectively rotatable about the axis relative to the center plate. A plurality of knurl rolls (26, 26, 26) are mounted on the body first part between the front and center plates. An arbor (28) is axially mounted on the body second part, and is biased to move toward the front plate. The end of a rotating workpiece (W) is adapted to be axially inserted through the front plate and moved toward the body second part between the knurl rolls to roll a knurl pattern on the workpiece. The angular relationship between the knurl rolls is continuously maintained at all times.

The device may be mounted on a machine tool (35) and selectively moved toward the object to root-roll a thread on the object when the object and device are rotated relative to one another.

    • A tangential rolling attachment (20) for a machine tool, broadly includes a body (21); a pair of arms (22L, 22R) having their proximal marginal end portions (23L, 23R) pivotally mounted on the body and having distal marginal end portions (24L, 24R). The arms are biased to move in opposite angular directions such that the distal marginal end portions thereof will be urged to move away from one another. A roll (28L, 28R) is mounted on the distal marginal end portion of each arm for imparting an action to a workpiece when the attachment is moved to tangentially engage the workpiece. A wedge (29) is mounted on the body for movement relative thereto in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the workpiece. An actuator (30) mounted on the body for selectively moving the wedge relative to the body to vary the spacing between the axes of the rolls.
