摘要： A composition comprises: (A) chlorine-containing organic solvent selected from the group consisting of methylchloroform, trichloroethylene, perchlorethylene, and mixtures thereof, and (B) non-ionic surfactant selected from the group consisting of ##STR1## or mixtures thereof, wherein: (C) each R is independently straight or branched alkyl containing from about 8 to about 24 carbon atoms or ##STR2## (D) each R' is independently straight or branched alkyl containing from about 8 to about 18 carbon atoms, (E) each Z is independently fluoro, chloro, bromo, or alkoxy containing from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, (F) the average value of a is in the range of from 0 to about 100, (G) the average value of b is in the range of from 0 to about 60, (H) the average value of c is in the range of from 0 to about 50, (I) the sum of the average values of a, b, and c is in the range of from 3 to about 150, (J) the sum of the average values of d and f is in the range of from 2 to about 50, (K) the average value of e is in the range of from 2 to about 60, (L) the average value of g is in the range of from 2 to about 50, (M) the average value of n is in the range of from 0 to about 2, and (N) the composition is essentially free of methylene chloride.

C. Commonly, the halogenated hydrocarbon is present in the gas stream to be treated in small amounts, e.g., less than 0.05 weight percent. The temperature of treatment can vary, e.g., from 20.degree. to 500.degree. C., and can be adjusted within said range depending on the relative humidity of the gas stream treated to maintain catalytic activity. Preferably, treatment occurs under conditions of low relative humidity, e.g., less than 5 percent, and the catalyst is a hydrated cobalt oxide catalyst.

More specifically, the invention relates to calcined kaolin-containing products having a median diameter particle size of from about 0.5 &mgr;m to about 10 &mgr;m, and a multimodal particle size distribution defined herein. The calcined kaolin products of the invention possess a combination of physical properties and applied properties not previously seen together in calcined kaolin pigments. The products according to the invention find use as flattening (or matting) agents, and as fillers or extenders in paint and coating compositions. More generally, the inventive products may be used wherever calcined kaolins are used.
