    • A method and system for establishing group multicast communication, such as PoC multicast communication. Multiple terminals will join a PoC multicast group automatically at some point before the underlying PoC session is being initiated and thus before there is any PoC content for a PoC server to multicast to the group members. Further, this joining process will occur without the PoC multicast channel being listed in the terminals' multicast channel listings. Thereafter, when one of the terminals opts to initiate the PoC session and thus signals to the PoC server, the server will cause the participating terminals to tune to the associated PoC multicast channel for the PoC multicast group that the terminals had already joined. The invention thereby helps to effectively randomize the timing of join-signaling by the various terminals and thus helps to conserve network resources.

    • Methods, media and systems are provided for generating a dynamic web portal in a wireless network, and the portal is based on personal usage. An initialized portal contains no web content. Systems include one or more network elements configured to monitor requests for resource components, to generate web portals, and to dynamically update the portals based on the requests for resource components. Data structures embodied on a computer-readable media are included for storing numerical data regarding the requests and for storing a plurality of portals. The dynamic web portal is updated to contain component resources from visited web pages, each having a respective universal resource locator (URL) or portion of code with which it is associated. Requests for resources are monitored and added to a web portal when a specified threshold is surpassed so that an updated web portal can be presented.

    • A method, system, and medium are provided for increasing the robustness of communications sessions between mobile devices and communications networks through handoff diversity. Separating the handoff times through handoff diversity provides for continuous transmission of data and decreases the likelihood of dropped calls and lost data. In a communications session capable of communicating data through multiple channels, handoff diversity is implemented by ensuring that at least one communication channel's handoff is complete and transferring data prior to initiating a handoff within another channel. In one illustrative embodiment, the present invention configures the physical propagation environment of the channels to create diversity in channel-handoff occurrences. In another illustrative embodiment, the communications network or mobile device is configured to force channel-handoff diversity by delaying a handoff for one or more communication channels.

    • Media and systems are provided for limiting bandwidth consumption in a network environment by presenting customized browser-presentable resources. A request for a base universal resource locator (URL), followed by a request for a specific resource, is received. An optimized URL for the request is generated. When a predetermined number of requests for the specific component resource are received during the course of accessing the base URL, subsequent user requests for the base URL are redirected to the optimized URL. Thus, only the specific resources are presented for display. Requests to return to the base URL can result in discontinuing redirection. Returning to the base URL and accessing additional resources can modify the enhanced URL or redirect requests for the base URL to a difference component resource. Network bandwidth usage is enhanced by recognizing repetitive user requests.
