摘要： A liquid crystal display device (100) includes a first liquid crystal display panel (1) configured to be capable of taking a transparent displaying state and a second liquid crystal display panel (2), such that the first liquid crystal display panel allows at least a portion of light going out of the second liquid crystal display panel to be transmitted in the transparent displaying state. The first liquid crystal display panel includes a first liquid crystal layer (1L) interposed between a pair of substrates, and first and second polarizers (1F, 1B) between which the first liquid crystal layer is interposed; the second liquid crystal display panel includes a second liquid crystal layer (2L) interposed between a pair of substrates, and a third polarizer (2F) placed on a side of the second liquid crystal layer that is closer to the first liquid crystal display panel; the second polarizer (1B) of the first liquid crystal display panel is on a side closer to the second liquid crystal display panel; and a transmission axis of the second polarizer (1B) and a transmission axis of the third polarizer (2F) are not orthogonal.

摘要： The present invention provides a liquid crystal display having the advantage of higher resolution and lower power consumption while having high transmittance. The present invention is a liquid crystal display provided with a first substrate, a second substrate and a horizontal orientation-type liquid crystal layer. The first substrate includes a plurality of source bus lines, a plurality of gate bus lines, a pixel electrode, a first common electrode, a first interlayer insulation film on the plurality of source bus lines, a first conductive layer on the first interlayer insulation film, a second interlayer insulation film on the first conductive layer and a second conductive layer on the second interlayer insulation film. The first common electrode includes a plurality of first linear portions having a linear shape. The pixel electrode includes one or more second linear portions. The plurality of first linear portions and one or more second linear portions are alternately disposed. All or every other two or more of the first linear portions are disposed on the source bus lines or the gate bus lines in parallel therewith, and are provided in one of the first and second conductive layers. The second linear portions are transparent, and are provided in the other of the first and second conductive layers.

The first substrate and the second substrate are arranged to be opposite to each other, and each of the plurality of picture elements has a plurality of elongated electrodes configured to apply voltages to the liquid crystal layer in cooperation with the common electrode. The elongated electrodes within one of the plurality of picture elements extend in eight directions, and each of the plurality of picture elements is divided into eight regions based upon the eight directions. In each of the eight regions of one of the plurality of picture elements, two or more of the plurality of elongated electrodes extend along a corresponding one of the eight directions.

摘要： A liquid crystal display device according to the present invention is constituted of a TFT substrate and an opposing substrate which are arranged so as to be opposite to each other with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween. In addition, in the liquid crystal layer, formed is a polymer into which a polymer component added to liquid crystal is polymerized, and which determines directions in which liquid crystal molecules tilt when voltage is applied. In the TFT substrate, formed are a sub picture element electrode directly connected to a TFT and a sub picture element electrode connected to the TFT through capacitive coupling. In each of these sub picture element electrodes, formed are slits extending in directions respectively at angles of 45 degrees, 135 degrees, 225 degrees and 315 degrees to the X axis.

The optical layer (30) contains a medium (31P) and anisotropically-shaped particles (32) whose alignment direction changes in accordance with the direction of an electric field applied to the optical layer. The medium is a liquid crystal material. When no electric field is applied to the optical layer, the anisotropically-shaped particles are aligned substantially vertically with respect to the substrate plane.

摘要： In a liquid crystal display device, liquid crystal molecules are oriented in a vertical direction to the first substrate and the second substrate by the first molecule orientation film and the second molecule orientation film, respectively, in a non-driving state. A structural pattern is formed so as to extend in a first direction parallel a surface of the liquid crystal layer and so as to form, in a driving state, an electric field periodically changing in a second direction that is parallel to the liquid crystal layer and vertical to the first direction. The liquid crystal molecules substantially tilt in the first direction in the driving state.

The plurality of elongated members include first, second, third and fourth elongated members extending, respectively, in first, second, third and fourth directions in plan view. The cured material regulates alignment directions of the liquid crystal molecules.
