    • A focal plane shutter arrangement in which a first group of shutter-opening blades and a second group of shutter-closing blades are actuated by respective pairs of operating levers. The shutter blades are principally supported for parallel movement by means other than the operating levers. Each group of shutter blades has a rectangular slit-forming shutter blade having a straight edge. This blade is moved in a parallel manner in which it is constantly maintained with its straight edge normal to a plane passing transversely of the shutter aperture. The shutter blades are guided in their movement by either arcuate or rectilinear slots and are actuated by a rod connected to the lever system. The shutter blades in each group are supported in independent support except for one which is supported from the slit-forming shutter blade of its respective group. The focal plane shutters is accordingly made compact and the inertia of the individual shutter blade groups is reduced or minimized.

    • A focal plane shutter and shutter blade operating devices for a camera. The focal plane shutter has a plurality of shutter blades arranged in two separate groups operated independently of each other as a shutter-opening blade group and a shutter-closing blade group. A shutter blade operating mechanism comprises a pair of separate devices for opening and closing the shutter with the two groups independently of each other driven in the same direction. Each shutter blade-operating device has a slit-forming or aperture-forming shutter blade in each group driven separately from the other shutter blades of the groups. A main shutter blade-driving lever and an auxiliary parallel lever are both pivotally connected to each slit-forming shutter blade in each group of shutter blades. These two levers in each group of shutter blades are connected to the slit-forming blades with pivots in a common plane and with these pivots on the blade spaced equally from the respective centers of rotation of the parallel levers. The parallel levers function in a parallel arrangement to maintain aperture-forming straight edges travelling across the exposure aperture of the shutter uniformly.

    • A lens shutter with a pre-view device. The shutter has a shutter blade operating member, constructed as an operating ring, for opening and closing the lens aperture. A lock member releasably locks a shutter release member that controls the release of the shutter blade operating member for opening and closing the lens aperture or exposure aperture for taking a photographic exposure. A pre-viewing device has an actuating member for operating the shutter blades operating member to an opening position for previewing of a scene to be photographed. The actuating member cooperates with a release member that releases the lock member for taking of exposures and which releasably holds the actuating member in an operating position in which the lens aperture is open thereby allowing the previewing and then releases the actuating member for closing the lens aperture. This release member effects the control of the pre-viewing device while the lens shutter is in a charged state without possibility of triggering of the lock member it cooperates with for effecting control of photographic exposures.

    • A camera having an electronic shutter whose exposure time is controlled by a control circuit is provided with a switching device having a first switching state wherein same disconnects an electric power source from the control circuit and a second switching state wherein same connects the electric power source to the control circuit. A switch-actuating lever responds to movement of a shutter release lever to switch the switching device from its first switching state to its second switching state. A biasing spring coacts with the switch-actuating lever to maintain same in a position wherein the switching device is in its first switching state and the biasing spring is compressed in response to movement of the switch-actuating lever into a position wherein same shifts the switching device into its second switching state. The spring energy stored in the biasing spring is then released during movement of the shutter to its open position and the switching device is thereafter maintained in its second switching state independently of the position of the release lever and by the coaction between the switch-actuating lever and the switching device.

    • A shutter assembly has a plurality of shutter blades divided in a shutter-opening blade group and a shutter-closing blade group. A shutter actuating mechanism independently actuates both groups of shutter blades to effect opening and closing of a shutter aperture and the actuating mechanism comprises a first set of generally parallel actuating levers connected to the shutter blades of the shutter-opening blade group by means of a pin-andslot connection so that pivotal movement of the first set of actuating levers effects opening of the shutter aperture. A second set of generally parallel actuating levers is connected to the shutter blades of the shutter-closing blade group in a similar manner so that pivotal movement of the second set of actuating levers effects closing of the shutter aperture. One lever from each set of actuating levers has a flexible portion and a fixed projection is disposed along the path of travel of each of the flexible portions to make sliding engagement therewith. The relative positions of the fixed projections and the flexible portions are such that during movement of the shutter blades to effect either opening or closing of the shutter aperture, the corresponding flexible portion engages with and rides over one of the stationary projections causing momentary flexure of the flexible portion accompanied by momentary pressing of the shutter blades against a stationary plate to thereby absorb the kinetic energy of the shutter blades and effectively attenuate their rapid movement of the shutter blades.
