    • An image reader has an original tray for feeding an original from a bundle of originals, a first transport passage for transporting the original fed by the original tray, a scanner for reading an image on one side of the original from one side of the transported original, and a CIS for reading an image on the other side of the original from the opposed side to the one side of the transport passage. To read both sides of an original, the image reader is provided with a mode of reading both sides simultaneously using the scanner and the CIS and a mode of reading both sides of the original only by the scanner with the original reversed using a third transport passage, a fourth transport passage, and a fifth transport passage without using the CIS.

    • An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit that forms images on sheets; a stack portion on which the sheets with the images are stacked as a bundle of the sheets with first end parts of the sheets aligned; a first binding unit that binds the first end parts; a second binding unit that binds the first end parts, by a binding method that requires a binding region larger than that of the first binding unit; and a distance reducing unit that changes a position of the bundle when bound by the first binding unit, from a position of the bundle when bound by the second binding unit, and reduces a distance between a part bound by the second binding unit and the first end parts as compared with a distance between a part bound by the first binding unit and the first end parts.

    • An image reader has a transport passage for transporting an original, a CIS for reading an image on the original transported on the transport passage, and a control member for pressing the transported original against an abutment member disposed at an opposed side of the transport passage at a read position of the CIS. The original does not slide on glass at the read position of the CIS and is moved with the original abutted against the abutment member of a chute on the opposed side, and image data is read in sequence.
