摘要： A metallic product is formed by an electric upsetter having anvil and clamp electrodes. The anvil electrode is made of a material having a relatively small thermal conductivity. A rod-shaped blank of a metallic material is placed between the anvil and clamp electrodes. Then, an electric current is passed through the rod-shaped blank to heat the same. The rod-shaped blank is pushed toward the anvil electrode under a constant force to thicken an end of the rod-shaped blank which is held against the anvil electrode. The electric current passed through the rod-shaped blank is controlled such that the rod-shaped blank is pushed at a predetermined speed depending on a displacement by which the rod-shaped blank is pushed toward the anvil electrode, thereby producing a preliminary product with the thickened end. The preliminary product is subsequently formed into an engine valve by closed-die forging.

摘要： A hollow member whose internal surface is to be applied with composite plating is held in a condition in which a generatrix of the internal surface extends vertically. An electrode is inserted into the hollow member with a predetermined clearance to the internal surface of the hollow member. A composite plating liquid supply passage has a discharge opening which is in communication with an opening at a lower end of the hollow member. A gas is entrained in a form of bubbles into a composite plating liquid which is supplied into the clearance through the supply passage.

摘要： A composite plating apparatus is disclosed in which an insertion electrode is loosely inserted into a hollow cylinder having a space, air bubbles are mixed into a composite plating solution fed from a liquid feeding pipe toward the space in the cylinder, and the hollow cylinder is connected to a base electrode so as to perform a composite plating on the inner surface of the hollow cylinder. An air bubble dispersing member having at least one passage hole with a diameter the same as or larger than a length of a gap defined between the insertion electrode and the inner surface of the cylinder is arranged upstream of a plating solution inlet portion of the hollow cylinder as an apparatus for dispersing air bubbles within the composite plating solution. The air bubble dispersing member can also be used as an electrode engaging member for engaging a tip end portion of the electrode inserted into the hollow cylinder.

摘要： A shaped metallic article such as a crankshaft is produced from a hollow pipe which is commercially available. The hollow pipe, which has a predetermined wall thickness, is squeezed into a hollow blank pipe having a predetermined shape and wall thickness. A region of the hollow blank pipe is then heated, and the heated region is upset and bent into a crankshaft, for example. The hollow blank pipe is upset and bent by dies positioned one on each side of the gripped portion of the blank and moving toward each other, and also by punches. After the crankshaft is forged, one of the punches is released from the crankshaft before the dies are separated therefrom.
