    • A loading device for an exercise machine includes a lever arm and a nitrogen gas compression spring in a force triangle that provides easy adjustment of the resistive load presented to a user. The nitrogen gas compression spring and the selected portion of the lever arm comprise two legs of the force triangle, with a slidable coupling selectively interconnecting the nitrogen gas compression spring with the lever arm at adjustment points on the lever arm. Both the nitrogen gas compression spring and the lever arm are pivotally mounted on a rigid member, with the distances between their pivots forming the third leg of the force triangle. The nitrogen gas compression spring exhibits a high resistance, a flat spring rate and is of rigid construction so that the lever arm and nitrogen gas compression spring are self-supported at all times. The nitrogen gas compression spring is coupled to the slidable coupling to produce a slight torque preload to maintain the contact orientation of the slidable coupling and the lever arm the same throughout the excursion of the lever arm for all force loadings.

    • A used candle is held against a flat electrically heated wax melting surface for removing the shoulder and the crater from the candle. The melted wax is directed through a drain to a container. The melted wax may be poured into a separate candle mold, or the container may be used directly to form a new candle. A multi legged wick pin holder, placed across the top of the container, holds one or more wick pins in vertical position when the container is used as a candle mold. The wax melting surface is angled slightly toward the drain to facilitate the flow of melted wax. A low heat conducting barrier keeps chunks of wax from clogging the drain. In one embodiment, the wax melting surface includes a gutter that communicates with a well formed around the drain. The well has tapered sides for shaping candle bottoms. In another embodiment, the wax melting surface has multiple angled planes converging at the drain.

    • A circular indicator gauge includes a body of molded plastic and a spiral channel formed therein with an inlet at one end of the channel and an air filled reservoir at the other end. A movable piston is in a chamber that is filled with mercury and in communication with the inlet of the channel. A faceplate and indicia film are ultrasonically welded to the body to complete the channel and reservoir. A spring in the chamber urges the piston toward a rest position. A sensing device moves the piston in response to displacement of a workpiece. A compensating screw communicates with the chamber for correcting for temperature changes. A cylindrical, relative displacement indicator is also disclosed and includes a clear body with a straight channel therethrough that is in communication with a piston that is movable in a mercury filled chamber and is operated by a sensor. An upper cap enables in line mounting of the indicator in the chuck of a tool, such as a drill press.

    • A work wheel retainer includes a flange having an annular recess for receiving a spur gear having an inner threaded surface for threadingly engaging the threaded end of an arbor. The work wheel is sandwiched between an arbor flange and a retainer flange and the spur gear is driven along the threads of said arbor by a manually operated axle-less pinion gear. The retainer flange includes a pair of counter bores communicating with the annular recess, either of which may be used to secure the pinion gear in position for rotating the spur gear. Another embodiment for use with an internally threaded arbor includes a screw portion integrally formed with, or affixed to, the spur gear.
