    • A printer having precision ink drying capability and method of assembling the printer. The printer comprises a print head that is adapted to eject a plurality of ink drops through outlet orifices defined by the print head. The ink drops form a plurality of ink marks at a plurality of locations on a recording medium positioned opposite the outlet orifices. A plurality of heaters is disposed near the print head for heating the ink marks on the recording media in order to dry the ink marks. Drying the ink marks fixes the ink to the recording media. A plurality of sensors, that are disposed near the print head are also coupled to respective ones of the heaters for sensing the locations of the ink marks on the recording media. In addition, a controller interconnects each of the heaters to respective ones of the sensors for selectively energizing the heaters according to the locations of the ink marks sensed on the recording media by the sensors. Thus, the controller selectively informs the heaters of the locations of the ink marks on the recording media as the sensors sense the ink marks. In this manner, the heaters dry only the locations having ink marks with optimized energy output.

    • A printing method that includes supplying ink from an ink reservoir through an ink channel that connects the ink reservoir with ink ejection chambers formed on a first surface of a substrate. The ink channel is connected at a first end to the ink reservoir and at a second end to a separate inlet passage for refilling each of the ink ejection chambers with ink. A group of the ink ejection chambers in adjacent relationship forms one of a plurality of primitives on the first surface of the substrate in which only a maximum of one of the ink ejection chambers is energized at a time. An ejection element within one of the ink ejection chambers is energized to cause the plurality of ink drops to be ejected onto a media surface at a single pixel location in a single pass of the substrate over the media surface.

    • An inkjet print cartridge includes an ink supply and a substrate having a plurality of individual ink ejection chambers defined by a barrier layer formed on a first surface of the substrate and having an ink ejection element in each of the ink ejection chambers to eject ink drops. A nozzle having a plurality of ink orifices formed therein overlies the barrier layer with the orifices aligned and associated with the ink ejection chambers. An ink channel connects an ink supply. A group of the ink ejection chambers in adjacent relationship forms a primitive in which a maximum of only one ejection chamber in the primitive is energized at a time and the primitive is one of a plurality of primitives on the substrate. A first circuit on the substrate is connected to the ink ejection elements and a second circuit on the print cartridge is connected to the first circuit to transmit ejection signals to the ink ejection elements at high frequency. The first circuit applies primitive select signals to select one or more of the primitives and applies address line select signals to enable devices associated with the ink ejection elements in one or more of the selected primitives such that a maximum of one ink ejection chamber in a selected primitive is activated at a time.
