In the second aspect, the third portion (18) of the rib (14) is connected to the second portion (17) at or adjacent its free edge and extends generally in a direction away from the top portion (11). Upon attachment of the closure (10) with the neck (22) of a container, the third portion (18) will be displaced to lie between the end portion (23) of the neck (22) of the container and the top portion (11) of the closure (10).

摘要： A closure (10) that is suitable for attachment to a container (20) having an end portion defining an opening of the container. The closure (10) comprises a top portion (11) and a skirt portion (12) depending from the top portion. The closure (10) also has a sealing rib (14) having a first sealing portion (15) which is contiguous with the top portion (11). The first portion (15) has an inner surface made up of at least a first substantially cylindrical surface portion (17) lying radially inwardly of the first surface portion (17). The rib (14) further includes a second sealing portion (16) that is separated from the top portion (11) by the first portion (15) and which, prior to attachment of the closure to the container, extends inwardly to a free edge. The closure (10) further has a continuous nub member (28) extending downwardly and outwardly from the underside of the top portion (11) and positioned radially inwardly of the first sealing portion (15). On relative attachment of the closure to the container end portion, the nub member (28) seals with an inner surface of the container end portion and the sealing rib (14) seals with at least an outer surface of the container end portion.

An annular sealing rib (20) projects downwardly from an underside of the top portion (11). The rib (20) includes a first portion (14) which is contiguous with the top portion (11) and has an inner surface (19) which lies radially inwardly of the skirt portion (12) and at least a second, frusto-conical, portion (15) contiguous with the first portion (14) and separated from the top portion (11) by the inner surface (19) of the first portion (14). The second portion (15) has an upper side and an underside and extends radially inwardly to a circular edge. The inner surface (19) of the first portion (14) has an internal diameter relative to the external diameter of the end portion (30) of the container (16) to which the closure is to be attached such that during attachment of the closure with the end portion of the container, the sealing rib (20) is engaged by the end portion of the container so folding the second portion (15) at least towards the inner surface (19) of the first portion (14) of the rib to form a seal between at least an outer surface of the end portion of the container and the closure. The closure further has an annular protrusion (22) formed on the underside of the second portion (15) which extends outwardly therefrom. The protrusion (22), on attachment of the closure with the end portion, engages the outer surface of the end portion (30) so causing the sealing rib (20) to be disposed over a greater area of the outer surface of the end portion of the container.

摘要： A container closer particularly for use on screw top containers such as carbonated beverage containers, the container closure having a generally cylindrical continuous tamper evident band joined by a plurality of frangible bridges to the free edge of a skirt of the closure. The band has a segmented internal rib which engages an external retaining flange of the container when the closure is applied to the container so that on removal of the closure the tamper evident band remains on the container or is visually clearly damaged by removal of the closure from the container. The band is provided with longitudinal reinforcement by projections or other areas of thickening to provide the band with longitudinal stiffness while still permitting it to expand over the retaining flange on the container. The rib has an first annular side, the first annular side having a compound surface comprising a radially outer frusto-conical portion which assists in the molding of the rib and a radially inner substantially planar portion which increases the difficulty of removing the closure intact from the container without rupturing the bridges joining the tamper evident band from the remainder of the closure.
