    • In an automotive vehicle, a dual directional slip clutch couples a windshield wiper arm to an electric motor and is operable to disengage the wiper arm from the drive motor during certain conditions. A range limiting system works in conjunction with the dual directional slip clutch and limits the degree of rotation of the windshield wiper arm. If the wiper arm becomes obstructed, the slip clutch will release the wiper arm from the motor thus preventing the motor from stalling ensures or damage to the system that is driving the wiper. The range limiting system ensures the correct alignment engagement when the wiper arm becomes un-obstructed. A single-direction slip clutch mechanism is provided for those instances where it is desirable to disengage the wiper arm from the motor when the arm is traveling in one direction.

    • An elevator machine (20) assembly useful in an elevator system (10) includes a motor frame (26) that supports a motor (24) for selectively rotating a motor shaft (28). A brake (36) selectively applies a braking force to resist rotation of the motor shaft (28). At least one load sensor (46) resists undesirable movement of the brake (36) and provides an indication of a load that results from applying the braking force. A disclosed example includes using a first resistive member (46) to resist movement of the brake (36) relative to the motor frame (26) when the load is below a threshold load and using a second resistive member (60) to resist movement when the load exceeds the threshold load.

    • A heads-up display for a vehicle is in contrast to the windshield behind the display or the environment outside the vehicle windshield. In this way, the heads-up display is more visible than prior art heads-up displays. In one embodiment, the windshield is tinted to be in contrast with the color of the heads-up display, at least over a small area. In other embodiments, the image forward of the vehicle is captured and sent to a control for the heads-up display. The heads-up display is then modified to be in contrast with the environment approaching the vehicle. In another embodiment, the window is modified to have a back glow over a small area. The heads-up display is directed onto this small area.
