    • A cap is provided for use in the filler neck of a tank. The cap includes a closure mechanism for closing the filler neck and a handle mechanism for rotating the closure mechanism relative to the filler neck to a sealed position engaging the filler neck and establishing a sealed connection between the closure mechanism and the filler neck. The cap also includes a delayed actuation mechanism for providing a lost-motion driving connection between the handle mechanism and the closure mechanism and an indicator mechanism for providing an indication of sealed closure of the filler neck upon movement of the closure mechanism in the filler neck to its sealed position. The indicator mechanism includes an indicator affixed to the delayed actuation mechanism and the indicator is a reflective member visible to a user of the fuel cap.

    • A quick-on cap (10) is provided for engaging a filler neck (22). The cap (10) includes a closure for closing the mouth of the filler neck (22) and a gripping mechanism for gripping the filler neck (22) to establish a fuel vapor seal between the closure and the filler neck (22). The closure includes a core (18) and a sleeve (14) that is movable relative to the core (18). The sleeve (14) carries a sealing ring (34) that is configured to seal against the filler neck (22). The gripping mechanism is coupled to the core (18) and sleeve (14) and grips the filler neck (22) to compress the sealing ring (34) between the sleeve (14) and the filler neck (22) in response to movement of the core (18) relative to the sleeve (14) in a cap-installation direction. The closure also includes a handle cover (12) coupled to the core (18) to make it easy for a user to move the core (18) relative to the sleeve (14) in the cap-installation direction an amount sufficient to actuate the gripping mechanism. The sleeve (14) is formed to include a passageway extending therethrough and containing the cylindrical core (18). The core (18) is rotated a fraction of a turn relative to the sleeve (14) to actuate the gripping mechanism.

    • A heat radiating briquette for a cooking grill is formed of a suitable ceramic refractory or other material to have a rectilinear, flat base, a pyramid upstanding from the base and a perimetric trough encompassing the base of the pyramid. Each face of the pyramid is provided with a series of grooves extending from the apex to the base of the pyramid and communicating with the trough. A multiplicity of like briquettes are to be arranged over the surface of a supporting grate spaced below with their apices pointed upwardly toward the food support grill and spaced above the heat source of the food grill. The side edges of adjacent briquettes on the grate are abutting so as to substantially prevent inadvertent seepage of food renderings to the heat source. Renderings from food cooking on the food supporting grill impinge on the briquettes and flow downwardly along the grooves to collect in the trough. The heat source heats the briquettes and the renderings in the trough so that heat is radiated from both briquettes and renderings upwardly to cook the food on the food supporting grill.

    • A pressure relief and venting closure cap for a filler neck of a vehicle gas or coolant system tank having an initial rotary drive which opens a vent valve in response to a differential movement between a cap shell and a vent valve actuator to vent the filler neck and wherein continued rotation of the cap shell causes disconnection of the cap shell and the filler neck. There are two separate drives from the cap shell, one to operate the vent valve and one to rotate a sealing element which screwingly connects the cap to the filler neck. A lost motion connection is provided for the drive to the sealing element so that disconnection can only take place after venting. A torque over-ride is provided for the closure to limit its rotary closing screwing movement after the vent valve is closed. A second drive between the lost motion connection and the vent valve is provided to stop differential rotation between the cap shell and the vent valve actuator when the closure member is rotated.

    • A system is provided for activating a sensor during an initial stage of a vehicle refueling activity. The system includes a fuel tank filler neck having a mouth and a fuel cap having a closure rotatably engaging the filler neck for closing the mouth. A sensor is positioned in close proximity to the filler neck. The fuel cap further includes a seal between the closure and the filler neck, an outer shell providing a hand grip, a hub, and an actuator member movable between an inactive position and a sensor-activating position. The hub interconnects the closure and the outer shell for applying a torque to the closure after a predetermined amount of movement of the shell relative to the filler neck so that a lost motion connection is established between the closure and the shell. The lost motion of the hub acts to move the actuator member to its sensor-activating position before rotating the closure relative to the filler neck in an amount sufficient to break the seal. Thus, fuel vapors in the filler neck are unable to escape therefrom through the mouth until at least the sensor has been activated.
